PPP daemon on IRIX?

Unread postby jirka » Sun Nov 26, 2017 2:25 am

Hi all,

Can please someone advice me where I can find the PPP daemon (pppd) for IRIX? Which subsystem I have to install?

I wish to connect the Agenda VR3 PDA to my SGI desktop and the VR3 uses the PPP for connection via serial port. On the other systems (Linux, BSD ones) there is need to start the pppd: "pppd /dev/ttyS0 115200 10.1.1.2:10.1.1.3 noauth nodetach novj debug local".

But, without the pppd, I'm out of luck :(

PPP is part of Irix: man ppp should help, if not install eoe.sw.ppp.

IRIX even provides a GUI for setting up PPP (both incoming and outgoing connections). Launch "System Manager", go to the "Network and Connectivity" section, and select "PPP Manager". Setting it up should all be pretty much self-explanatory from there. There's info in the "Personal System Administration Guide", or the "IRIX Admin: Networking and Mail" guide from the Techpubs archives.

Thank yout for the tip! There is a problem that the GUI does not allow to set up the direct serial connection (without the modem). So I have started to study the Techpubs documents... :(
