I own no SGI, but I deal with odd issues like this every day across a few different OSs at work. I googled around and it seems this is some license management thing for Autodesk products?

My suggestion would be to capture traffic from your Octane using a 2nd machine and match the capture with the events you see here. If you want to send over your pcap I can have a look.

Well if it was a license issue it would be talking about FlexLM

Your broadcast address is 0.0.0.0. (Wrong, blows up the IP stack in many apos like Discreet) Its looking for other framestores, using a broadcast. I think the process isnt handling Your Incorrect IP address gracefully

Using a class-C subnet (often, for sure if Your netmask is 255.255.255.0) Your network address *has* to end in .0 and broadcast .255

Serverd and iffswiretap Must do a broadcast to find other stone+wire servers

Plus IRIX its self is giving a major warning (ef0 Arp for broadcast is coming back with a ethernet serial and a wrong network address 0.0.0.0 anyway it should be something like 192.168.3.0 for network and 192.168.3.255 for broadcast, 0.0.0.0 should only show up for Your default route destination entrt with 255.255.255.255 as subnet and Your router IP
192.168.3.xxx, unless Your a router then it gets *a tiny bit* more complex, same as multiple net cards

Whats Your full IP Setup ??

Ip/subnet
Network (is normally automaticlly IIRC set from your ip address/subnet and the real issue Your broadcast)

Do ifconfig ef0
Then route -n

At this point at least there is no bother checking licenses yet, down the road if Your having problems with FleLM PM Me if You want

ahhh sgicollector, these were my thoughts when I started a thread on disabling ef0 of which I never got round to and have only just turned the machine on in weeks.

See I have two network cards ef0 and tg1 with ef0 supposedly having no settings applied, but I think you are correct, ef0 is causing issues.

Code: Select all

OCTANE01 2# ifconfig -a
tg1: flags=8f15c43<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,FILTMULTI,MULTICAST,CKSUM,DRVRLOCK,LINK0,L2IPFRAG,L2TCPSEG,IPALIAS,HIGHBW,IPV6>
        inet 192.168.1.53 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.1.255
ef0: flags=8404802<BROADCAST,MULTICAST,DRVRLOCK,IPALIAS,IPV6>
lo0: flags=8001849<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST,CKSUM,IPV6>
        inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000

Code: Select all

OCTANE01 3# ifconfig -v ef0
ef0: flags=8404802<BROADCAST,MULTICAST,DRVRLOCK,IPALIAS,IPV6>
        speed 100.00 Mbit/s half-duplex

Code: Select all

OCTANE01 4# ifconfig -v tg1
tg1: flags=8f15c43<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,FILTMULTI,MULTICAST,CKSUM,DRVRLOCK,LINK0,L2IPFRAG,L2TCPSEG,IPALIAS,HIGHBW,IPV6>
        inet 192.168.1.53 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.1.255
        recvspace 262144 sendspace 262144
        speed 1000.00 Mbit/s full-duplex
