Freeware Disk 3 of 3

Unread postby uunix » Tue Sep 20, 2016 1:24 pm

I have been looking through my IRIX collection (looking for 6.5.21 which I was sure I had) & found a sealed IRIX release with this label on it:

Anything special that should tempt me into unwrapping the seal?

Putting a new large drive and a fresh install into and on the o2 300MHz I have.

There's no particular reason to go either way. Freeware Disk 3 was SGI's official release of a collection of freeware tools. They generally worked OK, but they're all very old now (and yours is the 2001 release). I'm pretty sure there's a mirror somewhere so you can grab any dependencies from the other disks if you really want to install it. Nekoware is a better bet for use and what I go with.

On the other side Antiques Roadshow isn't going to let out a big sigh and say "if only this had been left sealed...", so if you're curious go ahead.
"Brakes??? What Brakes???"

Concur. Anything that was useful as sgi freeware has a nekoware equivalent, in virtually all cases a much newer one...
