Always been an xemacs guy myself, but it's been abandonware for a couple of years now, their website's not even up anymore.

Did you try SXEmacs? (I don't know if anyone has tried compiling it on Irix).

Yes, on my linux box xemacs-21.4.22 crashes with great frequency so I switched to SXEmacs a while ago, but just today I noticed that the xemacs site is back up again, o happy day: http://www.xemacs.org/

I'd like nano pretty well except for some braindead reason it treats auto-word-wrap as hard word-wrap, which means you have to choose between either scrolling along long-ass lines of text or getting spurious newlines inserted into your document... :/

Lately I've been trying xcoral, so far I like it. One feature it seems to lack though (although admittedly it's rarely needed) is the ability to do vertical box mouse selections.

Thanks vishnu for identifying xcoral! I didnt know it existed.. nekochan forums search shows nothing (unless im searching wrong)

I compiled the latest 3.47 version with MIPS Pro attached here in case anyone else wants to try it out without needing compilers:

xcoral-3.47-irix-mips4.tar
MIPS Pro compiled xcoral 3.47 with PDF manuals included

Indeed, many thanks Vishnu, I compiled it with ease and it's very good. I'm missing SmacLib which is possibly why I am not getting syntax colours.
