That shouldn't be an issue with the file he's trying to play in his attached screenshot, as I recall simpsons.divx.avi was one of the irixdivx test/demo files.
@toolkitman - which revision of irixdivx are you trying to use, and have you
updated your xserver to use 24-bit color? The xserver's default mode is 8-bit. While I'm at it might as well ask what resolution and refresh rate your running your V6,
the V6 has a design feature/defect that can cause problems with many of the more common screen resolutions (there's a hack to get around the issue by underclocking the V6 at 1280x1024, but at some users have reported display anomalies while trying it).
I just tried that same simpsons.dixv.avi using irixdivx 0.96 by dragging/dropping the file icon onto the irixdivx icon. It ran without problem, no noise, no color issues, no dropped frames (also using VPro graphics - in this case a V12 with the xserver set to display true color). Here's the console output (you can open a console window before running the file to see similar output - or error messages):
