More Sgi Layoff's

I noticed that Sgi shed another 600 people. But they stated they are extending Irix/MIPS system developement at least through the end of the decade.

Largely because about half of their business is with government departments who have continued to use MIPS/IRIX against the odds. Altix may be good for the Intel/Linux world, but it don't scale to 1024 processors (or beyond).

It also appears that they're changing addresses in Mountain View (selling realestate?).

No fair :(, I was in a similar situation a number of years ago with a company I worked for. And it is not fun.

I wish your friend the best of luck with finding work elsewhere.

What ever happened to the days of good news? Some people still love their Commodore 64 and many people have thier "snicker snicker" thoughts about them. I have a feeling that someday SGI users will be viewed the same way.... sigh *goes back to dusting his Indigo 2*
