installing prereqs

Unread postby armoury » Wed Jul 30, 2003 10:04 am

Thanks for the reply on my question regarding moving /usr/ Anyway, I've got another Q for ya...

Is there any quick easy way of installing prereqs for software? i.e. I want to install gaim and xmms and it needs gnome and about a billion other things... I did this on my I2 using the freeware CD's but I'm doing it from freeware.sgi.com this time on my octane. Is there any way to have inst get everything it needs from there and install it so I don't have to spend the next 3 days installing each tardist manually?

Thanks :-)

Eric

Tell inst or SoftwareManager (whichever you're using) to use http://freeware.sgi.com/Inst/ as the installation path. It'll find all the up-to-date freeware on SGI's site, and you can then pick and choose from there. Makes conflict resolution a breeze.
