Mozilla Performance

Unread postby armoury » Sun Mar 23, 2003 6:44 pm

Does anyone know of a decent way to improve the performance of mozilla 1.3b in irix? I'm running it on my I2 r10k. It's usable, but damn slow... Any suggestions?

Well, you could try changing fonts for menus and buttons; that _may_ help, or you could give Skipstone a try, as it's a tad lighter and over all quicker then Mozilla: ... .2rc3.html.

Personaly, I don't have any issues with the Irix port of Mozilla (although it is a little bit of a dog), but i'm also just a Monkey so what do I konw?

Mozilla runs OK for me too... and I've seen it run slower on 600-700MHz PCs :wink:

It ain't what you'd call the fastest web experience in the world, but with all the world-wide-wait times these days, it's no worse than most......

Out of curiosity now, does anyone know what file to edit to change the size of font in menus and the dialogs and everything? For some reason I'm getting this huge bold font that well, is kind of distracting and "bad" looking...

Edit your userChrome.css file, which will be in your home directory (e.g. /usr/people/neko/.mozilla/Default User/keay7yel.slt/chrome/userChrome.css in my case). I've changed mine a bit already:

Code: Select all

 * This file can be used to customize the look of Mozilla's user interface
 * You should consider using !important on rules which you want to
 * override default settings.

 * example: make the UI look a little more like Irix (nice readable
 *          slanted-helvetical menus)

window, button {
  font-size: 12px !important;
  font-family: helvetica !important;

menubutton, menulist, menu, menuitem {
   font-family: helvetica !important;
   font-style: normal !important;
   font-weight: bold !important;
   font-size: 12px !important;

 * For more examples see

The URL in the above has more info as stated :)
