Introducing D1

Unread postby Dodoid » Tue Jan 23, 2018 10:16 pm

Just released this, just in time for Nekochan's 15th birthday. D1 is my fifteenth birthday present to Nekochan and to the SGI community. It's a new category of device, not a Mini Indigo successor. The video is a bit light on detail, but I hope I can have some more info for you (including maybe some prototype board photos of D1-PT-02 ;) ) soon.

Happy 15 years Nekochan!

Check the "About D1" screen seen at 0:11 in the video. It's hardware ;) .

The D1 is not a proxy or a NAT device, though it does make use of network for communication with the host system. As a matter of fact, the host system acts as a network gateway for the D1, which appears on its own interface.

It is not a PC (not even x86) and does not use rdesk.

Dans34 wrote:what kinda price range are we looking at ?

I don't want to talk about exact prices at this stage of development. That decision will be made when we are working with a more production-ready version. While the priority with D1 is to produce the best product we can, rather than the cheapest, the price will be in the range SGI hobbyists are accustomed to spending on stuff for our SGI collections. Rest assured that it will not cost $500!
