Lots of monitors that can't SOG are at least tolerant of the sync signal so long as the H and V sync are provided on the appropriate pins. I had one like this.

Interesting! Just noticed the wikipedia page shows the differences between the Sun and SGI 13W3s, we believe in standards, that's why we have so many of them!

I've done it and it works. You can also do the same with another device : Dr Bott SGI Saver. You can sometimes find them cheap on ebay.

MLA is not SOG capable but is SOG tolerant. (It doesn't work with a sun cable).

At least the one I owned. There may have been different models or revisions.

I’ve fired up the Octane.

It’s run of the mill at the moment, but am getting parts at the moment.

I’ll either win the bid on a dual 400mhz or get one Ian offered me. Whichever price gives way first.

I’m looking at mxe with tram modules as well for good prices.

Since I’m told I can desktop capture on Octane easier than the o2 I’m holding out at buying the personal video options card but I did find two that were not on eBay for better prices.

So I’m considering.

Should be making more tutorials before the end of January.

What resolution do you intend to run the Octane at?
:Octane: wip build - Currently 2xR10000 250Mhz, 640MB RAM, SSI graphics, 18GB 10K RPM HDD. Lucent and HD fan mod.

:) NP.

Intuition - I'm not sure the MXE will push anything beyond 1920x1050 / 1600x1200 so just bear this in mind. My SSI tops out with resolutions that generate a pixel clock of <160Mhz. Also, compiling VFO files on MGRAS is a pita!

Well. ATM it only has the basic si card.

I was under the impression that the mxe with Tram modules will help with gl texture displays.

I’d mainly run it at 1600 res for the sw1600
But Ian said the little mlink adapters aren’t that great. I just bought an hp that is great for my daily 3d work. Super crisp etc. but I can’t get the vga to work from Octane so I hooked up the old lg that I used to use and it works fine for now.

There are 5 great condition sw1600 in Seattle right now for $100 each or $50 if you bid ebay. It says local pickup only. But I was going to contact the seller and ask if I can send him the sw1600 box I have to ship one to me. It is mint and has all the bits for shipping.
But. This long story only means anything if I can make the Octane display on a sw1600 in the first place.

I have an HP EliteDisplay E241i for my Mac Pro, it simply will not display the image from the Octane properly. Colour is washed out and the image sits halfway across the panel.

I recently bought a Dell 2407wfp which works perfectly with the Octane. There are quite a few of the older panels that will happily do Sync On Green.

Tram will give you textures, without it you'll just get solid faces / wireframe. Also be aware the SI / SE have half the frame buffer memory (13.5mb) of the SSI / SSE (27mb) so are quite limited in what they can output.

Picture halfway across the panel, usually it's because the display needs a VFO with certain reduced blanking values. I let Recondas, the expert on those matters explain further. Washed out colours is strange though.

I bought the Tram modules coincidentally as they come with an MXE card I got off ebay.

He had 5 of these at one point. I just ordered one. I will probably buy a multi link because I want to use the sw1600 with it.

Yes I did ask and he tried to get one working but the VFO wouldn't build, even using the mgras script.

I've never seen one of these for sale. I mean, amazon seems to have them but they are more expensive than the multi link adapter... also it shows a picture of something that would work with a mac or pc not an SGI because it doesn't have the 13w3 connection side.

I found mine on ebay for €90 or something sometimes ago. It has no 13W3, only DVI input. I put it between one of the V12 DCD output and the 1600SW. It works better than the multilink I used before. It displays the boot screen properly and switch graphic mode much quicker than the multilink when the X server starts.
