YAY! My twins are starting to look twinly.

Unread postby praetor242 » Tue Sep 12, 2017 3:15 pm

YAY! :D Thanks to Raion-Fox, I have skins for my nekkid SGI. All he needs now is a CD-ROM and he will be a completed restore :D That's not a high priority right now since everything boots off the network. But ain't they just dandy lookin' side-by-side?

I have quite a few O2 CDROMs that won't eject, and I know how to fix them (done it three times now), but I don't think I have any spare skins CD-ROM front covers (in fact, only one of my O2s has a completely intact one). Ian has some in stock, you could ask him how much he would charge you for one along with the grey piece that goes on the front of the drive and extends the eject button.

Yeah. He did have a CD-ROM that I _tried_ to fix...but....hmm....let's just say Double IPAs and fixing CD-ROMS don't mesh well :p Yeah. I'll e-mail Ian. I may hit you up for a CD-ROM.

Too much glue? Happened to me once. Fun fact: this is the same drive as was in the Origin2000, and I fixed my O2K's as well. If you can't find a faceplate, I could send you the drive with the O2K faceplate. It isn't the same, but I think it would fit and it's much simpler. Ian probably has one though.

Ohhh....a franken O2. There is a guy on eBay who has some covers pretty reasonably. I have the all the internal pieces. I just can't believe I didn't keep the cover (or maybe I did and it's shoved somewhere).

Yeah, the front cover is one of the first pieces that has to come off, so I would be surprised if you tossed it with the drive. More likely would be throwing away the grey cover that goes over the front of the bare drive inside the system, since it looks a little like it could be part of the drive when in fact it's removable. Do you still have that piece, including the little plastic piece that extends the button press?

That combination of twin O2s and Softimage book really brings a tear to my eye. Looks like you've got the beginnings of a nice little render farm :)

praetor, you're also welcome to render on my Origin2000 if you ever have a bigger job. It's not even turned on most of the time, so I don't mind. You'll just have to tell me how to use softimage enough to render :) .
