I took it out of the box and there were alot of chipped blue entrails. Dodoid, you overestimate my crafting ability...which is....zero :p

If it doesn't, maybe consider gluing it together with something more visible and then following this thread: viewtopic.php?t=16725453 . If it can't look original, at least make it look cool. You can still buy another skin, just thinking of uses for the old one.
A super glued o2 front? FFS! Are you kidding me!

The hope would be to do something with it. If you want to follow that route, probably better to go with the "glue, sand the lot, paint" route (and of course get a normal skin too).

Oh this is f**ked beyond belief. There literally are tiny fragments of O2 casing at the bottom of the box. Like I said, I'm not the craftiest person, so I'll just see what I can find for skins.

Just 3Dprint the skins.

I have a 3D printer but it's not tall enough to do an O2, I don't think.

Could you rig up a table or base that slowly lowers as the plastic is printed out? That would theoretically allow the printer to print objects taller than itself. You could rig this with a cheap IKEA table, cut out the middle, use a floor jack and a metal plate and slowly lower the base as the printer deposits it. Or, if that doesn't work, raise the printer?

That sucks dude.
Somehow my O2 survived being shipped from 1000KM away, with no serious damage, but I did find a very small hairline fracture on the back corner and a small chunk of blue plastic fell out of the space above the power supply and of course the cd drive tray cover is barely attached. I consider myself very fortunate. So far I've managed to avoid damaging it any further.

I've a spare O2+ in my office but I'm in the UK. Happy to help. May have an original O2 also. I've had one O2 shattered on delivery just like that too.

Was rushed this morning, almost missed the bus. Didn't stop me from measuring the O2 against the printer! It's not as tall as I thought, and it would actually fit so far as I can tell. Unfortunately, it's too deep. Maybe it could be made in two halves (seam along the side) and then melted/glued together? We have the luxury of being able to design a hard to see seam, as opposed to praetor's mound of shards.

i'm really kinda surprised nobody is 3D printing after market skins for SGI machines. I realize it's "not the same thing", but as SGI machines get more scarse that might be a good option.

Re: Well I finally got my O2...in a million pieces
That's some pretty lame packaging. A few inflatable bags and a thin bit of foam. No wonder it broke!
SGI systems need lots of careful bubble-wrapping, especially fragile ones like O2s.

I think it's something that's likely to develop in the next few years, and I wouldn't mind at all to be at the forefront of it. Good 3D models would be needed, and that's something I can't claim to be able to make (at least not well), but I can certainly print them! Re-engineered Origin200 front doors that don't break in half if a fly lands on them would be a huge accomplishment.

That would be nice. But they'd have to be painted or sand-able so we could get rid of those pesky ridges.
I would gladly CNC an Indy case one day if there was sufficient demand but they'd probably be quite expensive since that big of a block of aluminium isn't cheap.

Re: Well I finally got my O2...in a million pieces
That damage is definitely the fault of whoever packed it - totally inadequate cushioning for an O2. They need at least 6" of peanuts and/or bubble wrap around all sides if they're going to survive shipping.
I'd love to see somebody 3D print replacement SGI skins, but with improved designs. The O2 is cute but I think it could look even better with skins that more closely resembled an Indigo. Same with the Octane, though its skins are much more rugged than the O2's so tend to break less often.
The Indy is another design that could stand to be improved - the little clips and tabs inside the lid break way too easily. Would love to see the shell re-imagined as a slim tower along the lines of the Indigo2.
