Yes, they do. Copyright is limited to 120 years (well, for practical purposes that is forever) and nothing requires it to be enforced; registered trademarks expire if not renewed or the respondent doesn't defend them against challenges. The trademark "Indigo" (and Indigo2 etc) expired in 2014.

The cube logo is still valid.

Code: Select all

COMPUTER SYSTEMS COMPRISING SOME OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING: INTEGRATED CIRCUITS, OUPUT DISPLAYS, INPUT UNITS, COMPUTER PROGRAMS, AND INSTRUCTIONAL MANUALS SUPPLIED THEREWITH; PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS; PARTS AND FITTINGS FOR ALL THE FOREGOING

I think I'll be fine if I don't sell the SBCs with them.

I was not saying its not cool or anything, not offering a SBC makes it a waste of time for the 'mark holdet' todo anything but ignore it

So Indigio X trademark means nothing as long as its not directly, indirectly or inferred to relate to computers. Its the same with all SGI trademarks *in relation to computers* using such common existing words also greatly raises the burden of proof (civil not criminal, so its not beyound a resonsible doubt, rather prepounderence of evidence aka more the %50 percent the claim is well proved and founded) everybody can get away with sellung High Octane comouters, add the logo or a faxsimile SBC - or SGI and Your legally liable. Today i just finished a $20K claim for infringement or patent and Mark of Trade), as well as injury

All on all the other companies lawyers made well in the six figures, of the $20k half went to discovery and disclosure of expert witness's and My *single lawyer*. I ended up with giving My rights away, an NDA to wipe My bottom with and after all around $10k. Our tort/civil laws are very weak, and very geared towards the one with the most money, that can wait the longest with even weaker punitive provisions

However in the upside i got lots if yummy food, pens, notepads and a $100 Starbucks card

I'd like to eventually CNC an Indy and perhaps eventually an O2 or Octane out of pure aluminium. I know people with CNC but that big a block of aluminium would prove expensive to procure and CNC.

Do you think it would work to offer cases and ODROID-XU4 as separate items but that can be shipped together? I think some would like to buy only the case and use it for decoration or with an SBC they already have or plan to buy themselves (they would likely save a bit by doing so), while others would want to buy one, so this may be more practical anyway. What would be the legality of offering a product which does not fall into the list above (computer hardware, manuals, etc) as it's just a plastic box as well as another product which, if installed by the user into the other product will produce computer hardware?

IANAL, but it seems to me that a computer case could be construed as "a fitting", especially if it was sold with the express intent to be used that way.
But anyway HPE staff surely have more important things to do.

That's my thoughts on the matter. Maybe if I sold ten million of them and you could buy them at Walmart then HPE would have something to say, but as for a few sold on Nekochan, I hardly think they're going to care much.

Or really cool - I always had nightmares on stepping on somebodys toes and then being liable for huge armounds

I won't SGI didn't enforce/renew their trademarks???

I would love to have a little cube

and maybe a smaller keychain 'machine'

I heard the courts ruled a bit ago that the 'Happy Birth Day' song copywrite (I think copy write) is unenforceable now. Before You have to pay a bunch of money for it to be sung in a money Yes ??

First Mini Indigo to be sent to a customer is printing right now. Started it maybe 26 hours ago, should finish by this evening. As seen above, online order is ready. BTW, the form now includes shipping. $10 USD to anywhere in the world via Canada Post.

I was planning to get a Raspberry Pi thing to move one of my haproxy boxes from virtual machine to physical (need to reboot the VM host now and then and it's a pain to redirect everything before and after reboot), I think I'll get yours, it looks cute. =)

Mini Indigo in your signiature!

Unread postby Dodoid » Thu Aug 31, 2017 11:43 pm

You can now include your Mini Indigo Image in your signature and in forum posts! The Mini Indigo icon is one quarter the size of the normal Indigo :Indigo: icon, just like the real Mini Indigo, so it should be to scale with the other systems in your signature.

Image (even if they're comparatively enormous...)

I have also made the Mini Indigo icon a link to the Mini Indigo website, as images, unlike Smilies, cannot have hover text on phpBB without modifications, so making the image a link will help users identify it. Note that using the link version in a forum post will result in an underlined image, but in the signature it will display normally. To use the Mini Indigo in your Nekochan signiature, enter the following bbCode into your signiature settings in the User Control Panel:

Mini Indigo Signiature Code:

Code: Select all

[url=http://dodoid.net/indigo][img]http://dodoid.net/indigo/mini_indigo_sig_icon.png[/img][/url]

Mini Indigo Forum Post Code (no link due to post formatting differences):

Code: Select all

[img]http://dodoid.net/indigo/mini_indigo_sig_icon.png[/img]

Additionally, I wanted to post a brief update about 3D printing methods. The very earliest Mini Indigos were printed directly onto the print bed, using what's known as a brim for adhesion. This means that the bottom layer of plastic, which makes up the top and bottom of the unit as well as the bottom of the door, was pressed flat against the print bed and held in place by a thin plastic section outlining the entire part, known as a brim. This created a very flat surface, but also introduced a problem. As plastic cools, it contracts, and this can cause the part to lift up off the bed. This is known as "warping", and with larger parts like the Mini Indigo on cheaper printers like my Maker Select it can be very hard to avoid, even with precise bed leveling adjustment and a polyetherimide (PEI) print surface which is intended to aid bed adhesion.

When printing with the brim worked, it made very good looking units with extremely smooth tops, however it was extremely unreliable and fiddly, and I would say that probably under 5% of prints started were actually successful, with the other 95% (yes, 19 out of 20 prints) having to be stopped in the first few minutes due to printing issues. Though I tried many methods of making the brim work better, including numerous different bed heights, software settings, reduced speed, and even pausing the print to melt the brims back down with a soldering iron, none of these methods were reliable enough, and printing issues were the main cause of delayed shipments on earlier units.

Because of this, I have chosen to switch to a different method, using what's known as a raft. The raft is a thick piece of sacrificial plastic laid down on the print bed by the head. The real part is then built on top of the raft, and is peeled off once the print is complete. Because PLA plastic sticks very well to other PLA plastic, adhesion is much better and prints are extremely reliable, meaning increased production capacity, faster turnaround times, fewer wasted prints, and, anecdotally, seemingly even better quality on the sides, front, and back of the part (perhaps it holds it in place better? I'm honestly not sure why this seems to improve quality). It also completely eliminates an effect known as "elephant's foot" which, while not particularly prominent on the Mini Indigo as compared to some other 3D printed parts, was slightly noticeable on some units.

Along with these improvements however, printing with a raft does have one downside, which is a less smooth bottom layer. This is because, in order to allow for separation once the print is complete, the bottom layer of the part has to be printed a short distance above the top layer of the raft, somewhat reducing the smoothness of the top and bottom of the Mini Indigo. While not nearly as bad as the asymmetrical, messy, warped parts sometimes produced by failed brim prints (these were, of course, discarded), it does produce a top which is less smooth than a (rare) completely successful brim print. Here's a picture of two units made using a raft (sorry for the awful lighting).

As you can see, the difference is there, but in my opinion this is easily worth it for the MANY improvements listed before. While I would love for every Mini Indigo print with a brim to work properly, it is simply not a reality right now, and the raft provides an excellent and far more reliable alternative option with minimal impact on the finished product.

As always, the Mini Indigo is available for sale at http://dodoid.net/indigo.

Trying to add the url version to the signature makes it say "Image" instead of showing the image (see your own signature). Also, adding just the image works, but it is only 3px x 5px in size, which may be to scale compared to :Indigo: / Image, but it looks like a spec of dust on my monitor :p

Perhaps making the icon 6px x 10px will make it visible while still showing it has smaller scale?
