Yeah, but with the busted hinges, smashed feet and other assorted broken bits, also as usual ;)

I'm not seeing many PowerSeries anymore either. Some years ago you could basically pick them up for a song. I guess they are either in a landfill, or in the hands of people who are not letting go anymore....

Say, don't you have an extra machine you said you needed gone? ;)

Nope, sorry. What I do have is lots and lots of boards. I need to rationalize that at some point, but I'm also hesitant to shed stuff that's basically become unobtanium ...

I have about 6 O200 still collecting dust in my system cabinet at work. One is still running, a dual R12K/270MHz, the others are turned off and are in various state of cosmetic condition: i have about three intact doors. One does not exit POD due to a faulty dimm, the others should all be working.

If people are interested, PM me. I want to get rid of them and transfer their functions to a O2K and/or Onyx2

Hi Dexter,
That reminds me - last year (just after you returned after many years) you posted that you had pulled out a good few Indy/Challenge S machines from storage (some broken I think) and might sell some. Are they already sold, or is that still the plan? I'm interested in getting a faster Indy (and/or maybe parts to upgrade my existing one), and also a Challenge S. Let me know (or if they are already sold just ignore me!)

Regards,
Mark

They are still with me. I claimed the R5K180 with XL24 as my silent IRIX terminal and the Challenge S is too neat to let go. The rest is up for offers. The R5K150 blew a capacitor on the mainboard, but i checked the PSU and XL8 card and they are fine, so i reckon i can make it working again with a MB swap.

PM me for details and what you need: I don't have a lot of ram and no XL24, well, apart from the XZ. I'm back at the office thursday next week so i can check it out.

I have 11 O200 in the system cabinet at work. I remember about a lot of broken plastics too :)

I'll bite, what's your interest in an Origin 200? And why are you mirroring my crazy cyclic desires?

After seeing your Onyx2 I wanted an Origin 200 again for a file server of IRIX things. I think I may have recovered and come to my senses while writing this post.

The Origin 200 systems were kind of a pain. Upgrading CPUs was a dangerous walk with the devil named flash(1M), the deskside skins were pretty, but the plastic parts fall apart if you look at it. I think I saw a rack mount in between a couple nodes of an Origin 2000 at the recyclers once, but didn't have the desire for an Origin 2000 rack, or even the Origin 200 at the time. I've only really seen naked chassises or desksides. I had three I think, one in really good shape, a little cracking on the door/hinges, but I gave-away/sold/traded them many years ago.

That said, I had one running in the corner at work for a while just to play around during slow moments. I think it came in handy for installing from when I had systems shipped to the office. It ran a shell flawlessly!

That's what I use my O200 for: install server. Why bother with DINA if you have something that makes noise. I used to use a Challenge S before that, but the O200 has gigabit ethernet. Ultra-fast Tezro installs :) And FDDI: I can netboot e.g. a Crimson over (10Mb/s) ethernet, and once the miniroot is loaded it 'sees' the FDDI and performs the actual installation much faster. The O200 has FC also, so at some point I had the install media on my SAN (despite a pair of 300GB SCSI disks inside the O200). It's all an immense (but amusing) overkill 8-)

Yup. All true. And then there's the noise. O200's are loud. I'm pretty sure they re louder than an Onyx2 deskside -- until the Onyx kicks into fastfan (and it always does)

I'm pretty sure that must have been an Origin vault, basically a disk array the size of an O200. You see them fairly often in O2000 racks.

I thought so, but I remember looking at the back surprised to find O200 ports (ethernet, keyboard, mouse, serial, etc). Maybe it was a NFS and/or install server. Not that surprising that they might have had a system like that for management tasks.

As for install server, I think I might let my Challenge S share duties with an Origin 350. I can stick FC in there to get storage off my fileserver and try out Ultra-fast fast Tezro/O350/O3000 installs.

I have an O200in an unknown working condition ( I got it in a Craigs List deal) that I'm willing to part with and I'm located in Phoenix, USA. I'm pretty sure the CPUs are 180's but I think I purchased some additional ram and I pulled the power supply out of a second O200.
