ebay Onyx 2, annyone pick this up?

Unread postby japes » Wed May 04, 2016 1:05 am

http://www.ebay.com/itm/272232121838?ha ... 3f624c85ee

SGI Silicon Graphics Onyx2 Deskside Working OS loaded
Irix 6.5.30 It has two 400MHZ mips processor,3GB ram, 512meg texture memory, supports two monitors,79gb hard drive (NOS). Keyboard and Mouse included. Monitor not included.

---

Did anyone here pick this up? It looks like a pretty clean Onyx2. I thought it was a little expensive myself and tried to open dialog with the seller. Now that it's sold and the lack of message from the seller, I doubt I'll hear anything.

Just wondering if anyone here picked it up or if the seller is here.

It had a best offer button, and I don't think ebay is showing when best offers were accepted anymore, or not consistently.

The page will say "best offer accepted" if that is what happened, but it won't reveal what the offer was, only the advertised price.
Edit: as noted below, I have noticed that this has changed so that eBay no longer shows that a lower offer was accepted.

I know that's how it has worked. Recently a friend sent me a listing he'd purchased the item, best offer accepted, but the listing only showed the item was sold and the listed price - nothing about best offer. It maybe a qty 1 vs qty >1 difference.

I had thought you could still tell that a lower offer was accepted, but I now see that isn't the case:
ironically, I recently offered a lower price on an item that was offered at $20. The seller counter-offered a slightly higher amount, which I then accepted. If I look at the closed listing now, it shows that it sold for $20! Unlike with auctions and multiple listings, there is no public bid history on such an item.

I bought it! Look forward to lots of pictures and videos.

Looking back, I've monitored eBay every day for ten years for this machine. It's the capstone of my collection. Couldn't be happier.

Now, how do I get 220v wired to the office when the junction box is on the opposite side of the house...

Congratulations! It looks to be in great shape, IR3 and 400MHz CPUs is not a bad setup. Eventuellt has a shoebox.

How much did you pay?

Pretty sure that will run happily on 120 volts. Probably around 10-15 amps, so use a good cord. If you need help let me know.

It'd be great if you have time some 4th Saturday to see you at Seattle Retro-Computing Society in Redmond, http://www.seattleretrocomputing.com/

Probably want to bring something smaller. Let me know if you can come out so I'm there and we can take over the meeting with SGIs.

There's a nodeboard on ebay in Europe if you want to double up your 400s.

I paid just under the 'buy it now' price but got a second 400MHz node board and two extra power supplies. Oh, and a granite PS-2 mouse which really sealed the deal. Maybe a little high, but a fair price. I'm tired of searching for this machine. The seller's a great guy. I'm looking into a mirror in twenty years speaking to him :)

It runs on 110 without the second node board, but I worry about pushing it with those two RM-10s. I'll replace the dryer with it in between interminable loads of three pre-teen clothes to see what it can do.

I've been meaning to attend a 'Seattle Retro-Computing Society' for a while. Thanks for the invitation. I'll take you up on it :)

The shoebox is cool but ultra annoying, sticking out seven inches... WTF am I going to do with an ATM card? I'll be looking for a blank...

Unless you have a shoehorn, the shoebox is a great place to put a gig ethernet card. But I agree the hanging out is annoying. I know a guy that might trade a blank for a shoebox (he runs my old 8x400 O2k on 120v).

Congrats, a lovely machine. Kept coming up on my ebay searches, taunting me from the other side of the pond!
