TEZRO WANTED please

Unread postby sgi4evah » Thu Jan 04, 2018 4:53 pm

Hey guys!

Been scouring the internet (Ebay, vintage hardware dealers, etc.) looking for a Tezro or Prism (desk-top) I can buy. Boy, it's HARD!
Feels like however many SGI made, they're GONE into some black hole... :(
I'm in Canada. Tried some leads here and abroad, but nothing solid. Dealers out of stock, semi-ruined units...

Not looking for a super-powerful one though - I've used these way back, and want to own one to preserve it simply out of nostalgia and love for the brand and models.
Since it's a collection item, I'm being picky with the looks. I am looking for one with plastics (case/enclosure) that are as pristine as possible.

### EDITED TO COMPLY WITH FORUM RULES ###

Any good leads?
This forum is truly my last hope. :Tezro: :PrismDT:
Thanks for reading!

The Prism doesn't run IRIX but Linux.

Post(s) edited to comply with forum rules.

@sgi4evah: It says, at the top of the page, in red:

"Any posts concerning pirated software or offering to buy/sell/trade commercial software are subject to removal."

Your request pertains to the first aspect of the second case and as such I have edited it to remove said request.

PS: Sorry jj, had to edit your quoting him.

Ah! My apologies!
Wasn't aware of infringing on the particular forum rule.
My mentioning of IRIX was purely under the assumption that since all SGI systems had IRIX pre-installed from factory, it never crossed my mind that a refurbished system would be completely blank. (no OS installed)

Again, please forgive this forum newbie.

if it's only intended as a collector's item wouldn't it make sense to go for something compact like an o2(+) instead? that can be put on a book shelf even. tezro ... well, you'll have to throw all the books away to make it fit. :p

besides, i'd expect the big chunky cases to scratch and break quite easily in transport

Hey GIJoe, thanks for posting!
Yes, you’re very right. The Tezro is a beast. Big heavy bulky thing, instead of the little O2 toaster...
But the Tezro is the last SGI machine I got to use before that age ended, so it holds a little more special meaning.

I’ve been told by many how the heavier cases will tend to be a lot more damaged from (mis)handling... but, hey! I’ve seen others sold out around the internet in pretty darn good shape! Too bad I couldn’t get to them on time...
So, a fanboy can still have hopes! ;)

Thank you guys for this forum!

Okay, ask the user named Mopar5150 if he can help you source a Tezro. I posted in your wanted ad, where you solicited help finding a good Tezro. Mopar5150 is the best person to ask.

Thought so.
Thanks for the tip Raion-Fox!

Don't be envious. It has taken years of spending money budgeting, lots of favors and a fair bit of haggling to build up what I have

Oh I'm sure!
I was joking slightly but, yes: I can only imagine your dedication and organization over numerous years to build-up a collection like that.
Well-done! :)

I don't have any "pretty" ones right now but I will ask around for you. :) Raion-Fox has my respect for how hard he works at getting and using these machines.
If the thing isn't on fire it's a software problem.

I have been running my Tezro and the thing is just so loud. I swear I can deal with the Onyx2 noise better than the Tezro. It is so bad, I have pulled my dcd v12 Octane2 back out to use on my desktop. Loud fans have never really bothered me before the Tezro.
