DECStation 5000 / [20,25,33] RAM

Unread postby uridium » Sat Apr 08, 2017 7:08 pm

G'day,

Finally scared up a R4000 processor for the old girl.Trying to do some NetBSD hacking with the turbo channel USB adapter of Felix's invention and keep having problems with my memory so I'm trying to find some more. I've tried a couple of scrappers and have purchased memory which ends up being a wide variety of incorrect types when it actually arrives (wrong type, wrong pin count.. probably genuine mis-classifications). So.. this thing has 8mb on-board, and can take 32mb (4x8mb) for a total of 40mb which would be grand.

So. Does anyone have or know somewhere that sells this stuff and actually has the correct stuff?

Thanks for your time. :)

Giving away my DECstations has been one of my worst mistakes... However, I _should_ still have a set of 4x2MB memory for the personal DECstations. Not as nice as 4x8MB, but every little bit of memory helps. Yours if you cover the shipping costs, if you can't find anything better.

Hi Miod! long time.

Thanks for the offer. Have to see .. I currently have I think is 4x2 + 8mb onboard.

Yeah I know exactly what you mean. I picked up a R4000 from Zanchey in WA about 2001 and used it for many years. In '07 I gave away a stack of 5000's and have kicked myself since. I've since managed to get two from fleabay for $silly_amounts. It's just hard to find the bits. :)

Hope you've been well!

If you already have the slots populated, then I'm afraid my memory won't help you...

I have checked and I indeed still have 4x2MB (5019464-02) 80-pin memory simms for Personal DECstation. Last used about 15 years ago, they were in working condition back then, have been stored carefully in a dry place, can't test them anymore unfortunately.

Hi Miod,

Sadly you're right.

It's a pity your not local. I could sling the spare machine at you for fun.

I'm going to wait till next payday and see if K-Tec (Purchased the R4k from them) gets back to me. They 'may' have some. Very friendly guys, but I didn't hear anything back after the last email.

Best Wishes,
Al
