WTB: O2 R12K 400Mhz CPU module MAX $125
I am willing to wait. Not in a hurry as this is more of a eventually-max-my-O2 upgrade, as opposed to anything required for serious or immediate work. Below $125 would be even better... and I've heard it's possible
So let's see.

Re: WTB: O2 R12K 400Mhz CPU module MAX $125
Well... not to discourage you, but those modules do tend to go quite a bit over $125. Maybe you ought to change your budget, or lower your expectations... 300MHz r12k isn't bad at all, and much, much cheaper.

Your best chance of a cheap 400MHz CPU is buying an entire system. If someone removes a CPU from a system to sell it separately, chances are they recognize the value

FYI: I bought this system for 100 EUR a little over a year ago. I upgraded the RAM, added the 1600SW and FC adapters, but basically it was a mint quality (blue) O2+ for 100 bucks.

To accentuate the special identity of the IRIS 4D/70, Silicon Graphics' designers selected a new color palette. The machine's coating blends dark grey, raspberry and beige colors into a pleasing harmony. (IRIS 4D/70 Superworkstation Technical Report)

Wow! You got an awesome deal

Gives me hope... I *may* get lucky too. You are now the second person I know of who has managed to buy a 400Mhz CPU for this much.

Re: WTB: O2 R12K 400Mhz CPU module MAX $125
Some luck was involved, but I also keep a close eye on certain auction sites.
I saw this nice looking O2 advertised with zero tech info ("used for a project a couple of years ago, has been sitting on a shelf since", i.e. I don't really know what it is and I want the space back), so rather than asking for hinv output or other numbers I asked the seller what the label on the bottom of the chassis said. The label had '400' in it. The next weekend I was in the neighborhood anyway for a Cirque du Soleil show and I picked it up.
Don't forget that for the average person any 400MHz CPU is ancient junk, and they're quite happy to take 100 bucks for something that has been eating dust on a shelf for the best part of a decade. Saves them a trip to the recyclers too.
I owned an O2 already (195 MHz R10K) which I sold for something like 50 or 75 bucks, so effectively the upgrade to the 400MHz R12000 was even cheaper

Re: WTB: O2 R12K 400Mhz CPU module MAX $125
I agree that is not super-easy to find a "cheap" 400 Mhz CPU but it is definitely possible
. I found it and jan-jaap was even luckier buying a complete system. It is a question of patience, hehe
