Well, I suppose I got your attention with the title! Basically, I am looking for a Cray EL92/94. These are deskside models which were, IIRC, CMOS clones of the Y-MP designed by a company named SuperTek, which Cray then bought and sold themselves. I'm interested in these for the obvious reason of their being the only ones even vaguely within the realm of possibility of fitting inside my home. Moreover, they are air-cooled. Seeing as how I'm not aware of any cheap source of fluorinert, this is probably a good thing. Anyhow, I don't really expect to find anyone selling one of these, but I thought I'd just ask.

Here is the only picture I could find of one:

Here is also some information on them from Cray's site:

Thanks!
-Kevin

Have you heard about the homebrew Cray-1A project? It's much easier to find a place for it ;)

Anyway, good luck! :)

i almost got an EL92 from Tulane university. we had ironed out the cost and freight, then they reneged on the deal because someone thought they weren't getting enough for it. about a month later the seller was trolling USENET for information on repairs. the machine had failed right after they backed out of the deal. so after then asking them if they were glad they decided not to sell it, i was cured of the overwhelming need for 'a Cray'. besides a StarTek isn't really a Cray :-(

I have a sort of similar story. When I was doing postgrad work at university we had a campus centralized computer center and some computing departments in some faculties. The super computers were housed in the computer center and some idiot destroyed the disk on the EL92. I was collecting VAXen(*) and DECstations at the time someone suggested I grab it. I knew it was more hassle than it was worth so I didn't even ask about it. Anyway I had access to more interesting machines at the time. I wish Cray-cyber.org would hurry up and fix their EL ( http://www.cray-cyber.org/systems/yel.php ) for me to play with again.

@Kevin:
I see a Cray in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16723473 someone in the UK has one and I have seen Crays and Cray parts come up on fleabay occasionally ( viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16721974&p=7309530 ). I seem to recall someone talking about wanting a Cray if you care to search the forums long enough. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=16723084&start=15

I to would like an EL92 or EL94 :)

You could however consider an EL98. They to are aircooled and run on household electricity. We have a working one at the computer club and the cray-cyber boys as a rather big installation as well. It seems slightly more common than the 92 and 94. Although still rare as heck.
