[...cont]

So what of the second higher level machine with the 4x800, DM3 etc.. Well it doesn't work, it just sits there with PROM BOOTING.

I removed and refitted all components I could, still no joy.
Swapped out the Hard drive, still no joy (but this hard drive does have a valid IRIX install).
Connected up the L1 serial connection and the only thing I found was 'EEPROM HEADER ERROR' ??

But then I checked out the CPU from the L1 and it reported only two.
So I took it all apart again and checked inside the CPU cage, through the holes and yes, only two physical heat sinks, this cannot be right I thought.

I will bet the seller had more than two Tezros and I have picked up the wrong one.. and that's it. Yup I have the wrong one which he's going to sort out and I'll swap it back. I was going down again anyway, since I am also getting a brand new Altix 450 (the half size one) for free.

There is though a positive twist to the end. Since the other two Tezros are going to a museum, surely they don't need a V12 I said. Can I have it.. :D So yes indeed, the lower spec machine will be updated.

But I do need to find out why the other machine is not loading and what this eeprom header error is. Anyone?

No idea fella but well done! :)

Will have to pop in for a cuppa when I'm next your way and have a gander at the purple beasts!

Indeed, that is of course if you can get in the house, it's somewhat cramped at the moment.

I think I didn't get proper out put on the L1 because I was in command mode, and I think I have 'Ctl D' to get into output mode which may tell me a bit more.

Well done uunix :-) I am the bidder £2500.00 you bid over :-)

Enjoy, I'm super jelly !

That price was as high as I was willing to go. Hope you get some decent use out of them. Now I have to look around to find a relatively decent speed SGI that won't break the bank or need shipping from the US.

Oh Chap, well, sort of commiserations (I say sort of, since I can't really mean it, since I did win).

Where in the UK are you?

BTW, they have been hard work so far, but, will be going into a productive environment and hopefully over ten years will have paid for themselves ..

50Km near Heathrow, when I was there, I was the higher bidder £600 you bid over. The wifi quality was poop, and I left.
Anyway, those toys were not for me, I was bidding for a friend who limited his budget at £600.

I can't guess any productive use of Tezros.
Pointless reminders of the human ego:
  • arguing that you don't care about the right to privacy
  • because you have nothing to hide
  • is no different than saying you don't care about free speech
  • because you have nothing to say

Hehe, totally understand.

So the fellow had four tezros in total - egads. I'm based in Colchester, so my consolation prize to not winning was not having to take the day off work to go pick up a van and fetch it all :-)

I have to say my estate car was extremely full and as I got home, I shut the front door and a snow blizzard appeared.. I was very luck.
