Intergraph GLZ1 OpenGL Card (SMT299 + SMT303)

Unread postby hhoffman » Mon Nov 13, 2017 1:21 pm

Hello there,

meanwhile I did find in my storage, aside the Studio Z workstation I already offer here, a historic OpenGL card. It is an Intergraph GLZ1 (SMT299 + SMT303). Since I cannot test the card cause of missing drivers, I offer it for EUR 150,- without any garanty. There is also a keyboard from the same age available, offer EUR 80,- OBO. Please check out the images for more information.

I own one and have a GLZ2.
Too bad, you haven't got the smt233 first geometry accelerator with this card.
The GLZ1T is the very first X86 OpenGL solution with texture mapping (average fill rate ready for GLQuake ;-) ).
My dream will be an uncommon GLZ6 tower and a TDZ-600/610 quad PPro.
Have you got other Intergraph hardwares for sell? Pentium era???

Actually this is the GLZ1T: SMT299 + SMT303 (the T board). Is your GLZ2 up and running?

My Glz2 work perfectly.
Glz2 do gouraud and z buffer but it's not a texture mapping ready card.
Glz2 with geometry accelerator and texture mapping engine make a Glz6 solution.

Not exactly. You can mix the GLZ1, texture option and geometry board to get a GLZ1T, GLZ3 and GLZ5. The GLZ2 uses a different frame buffer board and can be expanded to GLZ4 by adding the geometry board, but they don't have a connector for the texturing option. The GLZ6 is unique, it uses it's own version of the frame buffer board (a huge one, that's why it requires a tower) and texture option. Here are the possibilities:

Code: Select all

GLZ1  - 12 MB FB (2 resolvers, 6 MB each, 2 VSMs), 1152x864
GLZ1T - 12 MB FB (2 resolvers, 6 MB each, 2 VSMs), 1152x864, texture mapping (4 processors RGBA, 2 MB each)
GLZ3  - 12 MB FB (2 resolvers, 6 MB each, 2 VSMs), 1152x864, geometry acceleration (4 DSPs)
GLZ5  - 12 MB FB (2 resolvers, 6 MB each, 2 VSMs), 1152x864, geometry acceleration, texture mapping (4 processors RGBA, 2 MB each)

GLZ2  - 24 MB FB (4 resolvers, 6 MB each, 4 VSMs), 1600x1280
GLZ4  - 24 MB FB (4 resolvers, 6 MB each, 4 VSMs), 1600x1280, geometry acceleration (4 DSPs)

GLZ6  - 34 MB FB (4 resolvers, 8,5 MB each, 8 VSMs), 1600x1280, geometry acceleration (4 DSPs), texture mapping (4 processors RGBA, 8 MB each) [tower]

You should also be able to use multiple framebuffers for more heads, but I haven't analyzed the combinations here.

Yep , you have right!
GLZ6 is a unique solution.
Finding one in this planet will be an impossible mission!

I own a cool intense 3D 3400GT (Realizm 2 VX113 + Lynx 4 Geo board) wich is great solution for poor FPU machines.
This setup (in x2 PCI slots) will rock an old pentium 166 PCI workstation. (fill rate between a voodoo and voodoo2 card but with a real T&L engine)

I searsh an original TDZ-2000 BIOS for my baby. Mine is the latest one (same as the GX1 ... Tyan Mobo ... PIII Bios) with the withe backround and purple logo.
The original one is a blue logo on black screen (Pentium II Bios).

What driver are you using with your GLZ2? It should be the same, the GLZ1 would work. Is it a generic version?

I have here on a TDZ-2000 Classic workstation with a dual RealiZmII VX113 with Lynx 4 Geo board running. I believe this was the original setup. The RealiZmII is holding texture RAM.

Some nice gear, here, gentlemen. Intergraph sure built some nice stuff back in the day.

I think i have the TDZ 2000 with the BIOS you are seeking, it has the blue intergraph logo at startup.

hhoffman:

Your TDZ-2000 is realy strange! the front badge is unique (realizm II)!
Very rare hardware!
Did you know if it's a GL2 or GX1 base machine (tyan motherboard, agp pro?)
I own VX113 board.
Your TDZ is really gorgeous, but it seem you have a LYNX III Geo board (with heatsink and x7 SHARC dsps).
Have you got more photos of this baby? I think about the pentium II heatsinks. Intergraph use gold colored one.
The LYNX IV have x14 SHARCs and rock GLQuake (with the 3400 board) on a "poor" 486 PCI class machine (when kids on youtube try the same thing with voodoo + 5x86 AMD clocked to the hell)
I'll love to buy your StudioZ but a TD-310 is waiting for me in xbay.it ... The price is a LOT high for a PPro without an intergraph Opengl framebuffer. I'll make an offer.

MrWeedster:

God, the best way will be to dump it with an eprom burner/reader or doing it in software.
I have a bad dump of it with the poor flash utility (wrong version?).

ok, it is not the correct category here in nekochan (bazaar), so I will keep it short.

The TDZ-2000 RealiZmII is a so called 'TDZ-2000 Classic', that was released before the GX1, GT1 and GL2. It has a unique motherboard, made by Intergraph and a similar chassis layout like the GT1 (different to GX1 and GL2).

Check out the image and also the two PII processors with 'gold' heatsinks:

thank you very much, I hope that will not be a problem of Copyright infringement.
Which driver are you using with your GLZ2? For me none does work with my GLZ1.
