SGI Espressigo

Unread postby Nubnubs » Mon Oct 23, 2017 11:15 am

Hi all,

I'm new to the forums, found them on my quest to find out whether there might be anyone interested in my Espressigo relic that I have lying around.

A little history : I worked in the 3D animation industry for 13 years and when i started out we worked on SGI machines as they were the most powerful machines around and were also all that the animation software, Alias Maya, ran on at the time before they started to develop for intel based systems. We had many O2's and Visual workstations and also an Indigo or two. The company that used to be the retailer here in South Africa eventually closed it's doors as the software became available to purchase directly from Autodesk once they took over from Alias.

We were one of the retailers biggest clients in South Africa and so as a gift they gave me an SGI Espressigo machine. It has been boxed up since I parted ways with the animation industry, but I recently pulled it out and checked if it still works. To my surprise it does still work perfectly.

The wife will not let me have it in the house unless I take the Gaggia machine out of the enclosure and long story short I would really like to find a loving new home for the machine, someone who can appreciate it for what it is.

Not sure if any of you would be interested in the machine? I will post some pictures and maybe a video when I get a chance to do so.

Ben

How much are you looking to get for it?

Where in South Africa are you located?

Yeah, I do want to sell it. I want it to be in a place that it is appreciated and loved. Doesn’t feel right having it in a box collecting dust. It was the only one in South Africa and was appreciated by many and has brewed many a Java

I would start drinking coffee if it came out of an Indigo :) .

I imagine the cost of shipping to Canada is even greater than that of a regular Indigo however, on account of the extra padding for (what looks like) a more fragile case (less stuff in it, looks like the Gaggia is held in place with foam) and the handle sticking out of the front.

Yeah, If it ends up getting shipped overseas I will build a wooden casing for it and cut styrofoam to protect it

Out of curiosity, what plug standard do you use in SA? Looks a bit like a UK-style 220v which might put some people off because running an espresso machine off of a voltage converter might be difficult due to load.

It's a 220v 3 pin plug, I think it is larger than a UK 3 point. http://www.ripsdiy.co.za/plugs.shtml
