sgi crimsons. 2 of them

Unread postby MrBill » Thu Apr 20, 2017 1:31 pm

Spent a lot to get these but have not been able to do much with them. I posted a hinv of one on the hinv section. I need to get the specs of the other.

None of my newer software runs on these.

I am open to offers. Located in florida.

I am happy enough with the onyx2 i picked up. If there is anything else of interest in my signature let me know.

So soon after getting them too. Crimsons look cool but power consumption, cost and the fact they can run only 6.2 is a downside.

Hope these find good homes. It's a piece of history even with it's faults.

Yeah. These are sought after. I'm sure they'll have a happy home.

They were only the latest and greatest for a year! Came out in 1992 as their first R4000 product, replaced by the Onyx in 1993. Probably why they are seemingly less common that some other SGIs.

Its killing me to sell them. I spent years of my life trying to get these. i spent all day in school erading about them during class. It outright hurts to have spent so much for them, to have actually managed to get two of them, and now have to part with them.

There is no sound. no video playback (dvd quiality video is not gonna hapen, and even so no sound)

The tank of an sgi onyx2 has got to be the biggest mp3 player ive owned. it does the job quite well, and runs all the commercial modeling software i have.

I need them gone. i need to find a better location to keep myself, and my sgi gear.

Yeah, I understand that Bill. Maybe, if you find an Onyx1 you could swap the skins of the Crimson over, hm? I dunno if that would work but they look identical in size.

*hugs MrBill* sounds like a sad dilemma. :( Someone on here will take them. I would if I had the money for them and the ungodly shipping to get them here.

i dealt with the ungodly shipping to get them here. granted the first one was more reasonable, still had to rent a car and go to the opposite end of the state and back a couple times to get it though....

craters and freighters built the crate that was used to ship the second one. worth every penny knowing it is not gonna get destroyed in transit.

Would you consider parting one of them out? I've got a Crimson that needs a rear plastic panel and a power supply.

sorry not looking to part them out. all the good bits are going to get taken and i am going to be left with a shell that takes up just about as much space.

Are they gen1 or gen2 Crimsons? i.e. R4000 100MHz or R4400 150MHz? Also perhaps not a bad idea to post which graphics options they posess, IIRC there were a bunch available for Crimsons...
