A mini Crimson will be next after my Mini Indigo, but I could never 3D print a full size case. I bought my current printer specifically because it could make a deskside at quarter scale.

I haven't seen too many complete Crimsons for sale and this is from a reputable company. The price sounds fair to me. Super good deals aren't a good measure for what something is worth. I once bought a 4x1ghz Tezro for $250.
If the thing isn't on fire it's a software problem.

This makes me wonder what my Jurassic Classic is worth (or what it would be worth if I got it running)

And Necron, regardless of what you paid, congrats on picking up a rare system. Looking forward to seeing pics and specs when you get it home.

I worry about this, because I want an Onyx deskside sooooo freaking bad, and I see one in my future, but not for a smooth $4k.

Onyx 1 or 2? I find Onyx2s for considerably less than Crimsons. But still not cheap. I would prefer an o2000 deskside myself.

DC has lots of SGI shit that gets decommissioned. I grab what I can but I drive a Miata and don't have space for Onyxes and Origin desksides for now.

dcdirecttech is a good eBay seller for stuff in the area.

The price was less than 4k.. I do agree that 4k is way too much. The seller accepted my offer, I did not do the buy-it-now price. However it was still more than the price of a decent Tezro (which are not too easy to find these days too).

I have been looking for a cosmetically good SGI deskside for quite some time at a fair price (nekochan hardware-wanted forum as evidence too). There is an Origin 2000 on ebay right now.. but its cosmetics do not appear to be so good. I would not want to spend 2k+ on something classic that while works.. is not very attractive.

I do collect, but I do use all my systems. Nothing I have is non-functional. They are my passion (some may see as a money-pit). I assume others may have spent a couple grand on a vacation or splurge on a new car... to each their own.

Congrats necron2600. That is a cool machine. My ambition was to find a Onyx 2 deskside and finally found it after ten years. Paid a bunch for it but that pain goes away after a while. Enjoy.
