Sorry for the delay, I was very busy. CadSoft has sold EagleCAD to Autodesk and the whole EDA has quickly gone rogue. I evaluated Eagle some time back, must have been about 7 years ago and decided the free version was far too limited. So I bought the professional version and have been using it ever since, upgraded sever time (=$$ money paid to CadSoft), seems like a no-brainer to me. I tried several other EDAs around the same time, played with OrCad at work, tried every hobbyist oriented package I could find as well as a couple other commercial ones. My conclusion was that they all suck, they all have quirks, they all have a learning curve, and once you learn your way around, most of them will do the job. Given the way Autodesk has behaved on this matter, I would not even consider Eagle: it has become too expensive now!
