Not mine or anything to do with me but, seems like a nice price for you crazy people with stuff like this at home. I do believe those drives are worth much more than they are asking alone.

I dunno ... I'm wary of the "as is" aspect of it ... and the very low price.

Just low enough that you won't raise a big fuss when it is DOA.

I really don't see how it could be doa. Its not like a monolithic system. Everything there can be taken and used separately and it would take pretty crazy resources to build in entire system out of broken parts like that. You would have to have a lot of broken parts around. I mean even the wiring is like it was pulled from operation yesterday. Bet they just bought it from a company that out grew it or replaced it. They seem to buy and sell VFX surplus. Probably got it buying a lot of PC gear they actually wanted.

I don't see an Inferno dongle. So this may be an Inferno-capable Onyx, it is not an Inferno suite.

That Discreet dongle alone is worth (much) more than the entire system, but even without it the Onyx is a steal @ $1K

Perhaps the seller doesn't quite know what a system like this is actually worth. The lack of specific system specifications (short of the total disk space and some generic paragraphs copied from the SGI website) at least makes it seem that way.

Based on that and the shockingly low price (I still see mediocre Fuel systems going for that price) I would think it was just pulled from a studio during a liquidation/dissolution.

As for the dongle, perhaps they're selling it separately?

If I had $1500+, a couple days to blow and I didn't live in an apartment I'd grab this in a heartbeat!

I like the way it's "local pickup only" but they don't bother saying where it is.

Definitely don't know what they have, otherwise no one would advertise an Onyx 350 InfiniteReality4 as an "Onyx 4"

I think the giant picture of him holding the plug like it is some strange unknown thing pretty much says they have no idea about this box.

Looking this picture seems the VBOB has a DM5 inside but only two ports. Special DM5?

There are four VBOB configurations mentioned obliquely in TechPubs <in the instruction for flashing the VBOB>:
Code:
1. A system with vbob 1.3 installed.
      - the vbob should be updated automatically when exiting inst

2. No GVO products install.
      - run /usr/dmedia/bin/vbob/vbob_update1
      - run /usr/dmedia/bin/vbob/vbob_update2

3. HD-GVO product installed.
      - power down vbob, remove cover and remove TOI daughter card
      - temporarily replace cover(do not screw down) and power up vbob
      - run /usr/dmedia/bin/vbob/vbob_update1
      - power down vbob, remove cover and replace TOI daughter card
      - replace cover and power up vbob
      - run /usr/dmedia/bin/vbob/vbob_update2

4. DM5 product installed.
      - if the product is installed then the vbob has already be updated to
       1.3 version of vbob then follow step 1, if no follow the appropriate stps in 2 or 3 above


The one on the that IR4 system is probably #3 from the above list - the 'TOI daughter card' mentioned has two TMDS ports that connect to a matching number of TMDS ports on the DG5-2/TVO <aka HD-GVO> in the G-Brick.

Here's a slightly better view of <either end> of a DG5-2/TVO cabled to a VBOB with the TOI daughter card:
