fs: SGI Indigo2 MaxImpact Maximized (the last one I have)

Unread postby Y888099 » Fri Feb 17, 2017 7:20 am

I am moving to HPPA, definitively, so it's time to shift out the last SGI machine I have

Twin of the one I have already sold, it comes with a few more optionals

  • CPU: R10K@195Mhz
  • RAM: 1GB, 8x128MB modules, all equal, it's a kit
  • HD: 40GB, barracuda 2U + SCA-50p adapter
  • GFX: MaxImpact without extra Tram, so it's 1MB
  • LAN: Phobos G160
  • DRIVEs: ioMegaZIP/100, with two cartridges included, Toshiba CDROM 2X (it's EFS compatible)
  • OPTIONALs: Vertical feet, grey SGI speaker, Graphite Keyboard (USA layout) and Mouse

700 euro + postage. I guess ~70..80 euro, within Europe.

if you prefer, I can replace the Phobos G160 card with 3COM EISA. In this case I will apply a discount of -60 euro!

Not to judge you but that's as dead of a platform as SGI. Even Itanium has a final update planned! Unless you plan to use Linux on those in which case it's pretty much half working on the platform.

Yep, I can't use my C3.6K as "workstation" because the STI-Card doesn't work with X11, and it's damn slow (I have removed it, it's useless, even as text-console). C8K doesn't solve the problem, neither you can use the ATI with X11. But I don't care, since I use the machine as server, remotely connected on a comfortable (powerpc-G4)laptop. And It's stable enough to be usable.

Where do you procure those 1 GiB modules? The ones I've seen on Ebay so far are much more expensive.

Can't you use a common ATI AGP graphics card instead? I had to remove the graphics card built into my c8000. It looked like it draw too much power which often crashed my machine during POST, even when I only had one processor installed. The built-in card draw all power from the AGP Pro socket and does not have an additional power connector. I exchanged it with a Radeon 9800 Pro which has an additional power connector and the problems during post were gone. I don't have an X server installed on it though.

What are you running on your c8000, Debian unstable or Gentoo?

Bought two kits for 150 USD each from a reseller in USA.
I was there, so I didn't pay customs. Just 30 USD for the shipping.

Yep, of course, but it doesn't work well on linux.
