Dallas Real Time Clock Chip on O2 MB (and Octane MB)

Unread postby chicago-joe » Mon Jun 09, 2003 8:30 pm

I recently had the Dallas clock chip (DS1687-5) die on my O2 MB. After searching on Google I found two posts that said the only place to get these was from SGI, not so! Digi-Key Corp. http://www.digikey.com sells them. Digi-Key p/n - DS1687-5-ND $10.63 each. Works like a charm. BTW this is the same clock chip as on the Octane MB as well.

You could always just goto the manufactures site http://www.dallassemiconductor.com (or for that part http://www.dallassemiconductor.com/quic ... 2757/ln/en ) and get the thing for free. Since like most manufactures of chip components they offer free samples of most of their products. You don't even need to pay for shipping. All you need to do is click 'Request Samples' at the bottom of the page a fill out the needed info. And generally in a week or two you have your parts.
