My Indigo2 4400 200mhz died

Unread postby sbear » Tue Mar 09, 2004 11:32 am

I wasusing my recently aquired Indigo2 R4400 where upon I hot swapped a newer 9 gig internal SCSI HD for the existing secondary 2 gb drive. When I inserted the new secondary drive the unit went off like someone had pulled the power cord. Now nothing happens.....no life is apparant .

What did I do to kill my Indigo2 and what do you think is wrong with it?
.....the older I get......the better I was.

Ouch. The Indigo2 SCSI subsystem is not hot-swappable. It's likely the system is damaged.

Stupid me...I thought I read somewhere that the internal drives were hotswappable on the Indigo2's. Fortunately I learned my mistake on this $35 Indigo2 and not my max impact R10000.

I'm surprised that it has taken the whole system down though...wouldn't one expect that the SCSI bus might be screwed up somewhere, but not the power supply or other components?

The term power line isn't fused on Indigo2 - apparently it uses an active component to limit current and this may have toasted something. The system might not be completely dead though - maybe just a toasted power supply.
