If the system has a 13W3 port, you need a suitable 13W3-HD15 (vga) converter. Your monitor needs to deal with the sync-on-green put out by the Octane.

If the system has a V12 graphics board with DCD option installed, it has two DVI ports. Each supports resolutions up to 1920x1200.

A 'modern' monitor often has a resolution higher than 1920x1200. There's no practical way to run such a monitor at it's native resolution in IRIX.

I'll have $5 on this reaching two pages. Why only two pages you say, well OPs question isn't as really open as the CGI one previously, therefore has a limited growth I think and TTL has to be only a few day to get the message to sink in, since it factual.

As I just posted in another thread, the pinout for both the SGI and the Sun 13W3 is (possibly incorrectly) shown on wikipedia (I say possibly incorrectly because it's wikipedia, and everything on wikipedia is possibly incorrect!)

I only use SUN 13w3 to VGA converters. Never had any issues with the many relatively modern 27", 30", and 32" LCD and LED monitors I have tried with any SGI.. old and newer (less old ;). Granted, resolution is no more than 1920x1200 (in some LCD cases 1920x1080) but that does not bother me with what I use them for.

necron2600, From what I've seen SGI Tezro has input for modern common monitors?

DVI single link, yes. If you have a DCD equipped Tezro or a DCD equipped Octane you can use an IBM T221 to get a combined image out of them.

Ask Hamei about T221 - he's been using one for years now.

Interestingly, my Dell U2410W (very good monitor) does work with SGI and supports SoG but after a short while it loses something and picture changes color... Has anyone observed such behavior ?
I wonder whether adapter with proper H/V would help at all. (my problem doesn't seem to be sync related and happens even on O2 with VGA connector)...

Hi there michaelpastras, those cables interest me, but you say they aren't for use on an Onyx RE2? I have an Onyx RE2, so that's a little bit worrying. I have ran it using the "black triangular" and "white triangular" adapters everyone seems to have:

These work OK, but they do not work with my VGA to HDMI converter. That makes sense, as I have heard the same of other adapters, and apparently yours fixes that, but what makes yours not compatible with the Onyx?

The Crimson and Onyx RE systems put stereo field sync (for shutter glasses) and +10V on the pins normally used for Horizontal and Vertical Sync, respectively. If those were to be connected to a VGA monitor it could be damaged or at least confused. The RE could also be damaged depending on what kind of fuses are used to limit current on the respective pins.

Yeap! That would be the reason why you shouldn't use these adapters of mine with RE systems.
The +10V will fry the monitor/converter box..
