Indigo2 IMPACT 10K Soft Power Problem

Unread postby archaic » Wed Mar 22, 2017 7:55 pm

I have an Indigo2 IMPACT 10000 that has a strange soft power problem. The machine works perfectly except that after it is powered down it will not come back on until the power cord is unplugged for about 20 seconds. I have changed the power supply with a brand new one, and it made no difference. I was wondering if anybody had any ideas. It's not a huge deal, but I am curious as to why.

It has a dead battery in the Dallas chip, would that make a difference?

For what it's worth, I have the exact same issue with mine. I also changed PSU and it did not help. Dallas battery in mine is fine and my system has no other faults I'm aware of.

Not sure what is causing it, but as the Indigo2 PSU gobbles nearly 20w of power when off, mine is always switched off physically at the wall when not in use, hence it's not been a problem for me. However, you're not alone with this issue and I've not been able to figure out what causes it either.
Systems in use:
:Indigo2IMP: - Nitrogen: R10000 195MHz CPU, 384MB RAM, SolidIMPACT Graphics, 36GB 15k HDD & 300GB 10k HDD, 100Mb/s NIC, New/quiet fans, IRIX 6.5.22
:Fuel: - Lithium: R14000 600MHz CPU, 4GB RAM, V10 Graphics, 72GB 15k HDD & 300GB 10k HDD, 1Gb/s NIC, New/quiet fans, IRIX 6.5.30
Other system in storage: :O2: R5000 200MHz, 224MB RAM, 72GB 15k HDD, PSU fan mod, IRIX 6.5.30

Thanks. It is good to know that I am not the only one with this issue.

I think (not 100% sure) that this is the thing that goes away of you replace 4 small elcos in the PSU. The procedure is on Ian Mapleson's site.
