SGI PROM binaries? ... Solved

Unread postby jammaster » Fri Feb 17, 2017 8:28 am

I'm curious about an hybrid indigo 2 with R4400 and Impact framebuffer.
I'm working on it now (R4k 200 with solid impact).
The machine boot and "chime" (old one) but no post on screen.
i have the standard 070-1367-004 EPROM on the mobo.
I own the last one (i presume) 070-1367-011 for IP22.
Coulid it be my IP22 board that haven't the correct PROM?
I'll switch with the later one...
And in add, it seem there is no dump of SGI PROM on the net ???
I'll take out my eprom burner ...

I am pretty sure the 1994 PROM is too old for Impact. But the others should work fine.

Very strange...
My two IP22 boards upgraded with Rev E PROM don't want my three working solid impact (!)
all is working (impact I/O board, impact power supply ...)
with an IP22, a full impact accessories (psu + i/o + rev E PROM) but with an extreme boardset (and psu wires looped on tiny pcb), the mobo chime/post corectly.
With solid impact, the mobo chime corectly (!) and my monitor sync with my impact board but NOTHING on screen (just sync signal i think)...
the impact ready IP22 (8225-008) seem different than standard mobo (8225-004)...And too bad, my impact ready is dead...

I can't make an IP22 impact posting on screen now with V11 ROM. I am doomed...

Well, can you enter the PROM via serial console? And if so, can you run diagnostics?

So the Rev C PROM is the -004 version? Good, i've put that in the Wiki: http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/PROM#SGI_I ... nge_M_PROM

There's an easy way to find out, assuming you've dumped your PROM image such that strings are in natural (readable) byte order.

Run strings on the binary and grep for 'mgras':

Code: Select all

$ strings ip22prom.070-1367-012.bin | grep mgras
bootp()mgras.ide.IP22
mgras
mgras: VC3SRAM verify failed -
mgras_i2c: Unknown command %d

$ strings ip22prom.070-8127-002.bin | grep mgras

(no output)

...Fortunaly no, i haven't got a DIN8 to DB9 converter. (A shame, i'll made one or found one ... Seem to be a sun DIN plug)
It's very strange.
In all Indigo 2, i presume, the frame buffer post on just before switching the green led (after amber and chime).
My working impact post on (blanck screen but synchro) after the last green led...
The couple, CPU/ram/mobo seem to be OK... And work like a charm with an old extreme stack.
Does my PSU have a too low 5V extrenal rail??? (dawn, i just recaped it with new capacitors)
I have try with the last revision V12 dump, but the mobo won't chime (!)... corrupted dump???

:-(

PS: yep, the C revision seem to be 004... ^_^

In the end, i'll search a used IP28 mobo... I'm bored with impact ready config :evil: . (but curious to make one working).
If anybody with pity sell one at a reasonably price ??? :oops:

Made a cable.
The Indigo seem to work headless ... But my Solid impact post nothing (!) ...
I don't think it's my monitor, my other indigo 2 maximpact work great on it!

Do you see patterns on the display during the IDE test? OK, that's good.
It might be a cable problem... the assignment of the pins changed at some point.

yes, i have seen the test fully... the little mardigras logo on bottom left !
And the x3 cards i have work perfectly... I am lost at this point !
And same thing with my two IP22 mobos...
Is it a challenge to have a R4k/imp working?
different NVRAM between two configs ?

The V12 Indigo 2 existing software dump is false:
