Thanks for the info, i will get it swapped out tonight. I will get the actual part number off the mystery board as well. not sure what it is. ill get some pictures too.

I hate the idea of the DM board being junk, if someone else has a damaged one of the same model they are willing to part with perhaps i can make a working one out of the two bad ones.

You could always mail the board to Ian Mapleson, see if he can resurrect it or use it for parts.

Glad to hear you're up and running!

jan-jaap wrote:The remarks about replacing RAM chips that 'irsaudit' spews out are for SGI engineers. It doesn't even say where on the board to replace anything so it's not very useful for an end user.
FWIW, I seem to recall the solder side of some IR boards are marked with an alphanumeric grid. Haven't pulled a board to see if there's even a remote correlation between the my vague memories of a grid and the pin locations mentioned by irsaudit

Code: Select all

INFO                * Miscompare on bit: 29 XMAP CLUT DATA pin: R 22
INFO                * Miscompare on bit: 30 XMAP CLUT DATA pin: R 21
INFO                * Miscompare on bit: 31 XMAP CLUT DATA pin: T 23
and the even less specific irsaudit repair recommendations

Code: Select all

DIAG                Replace DG board; repair based on above INFO lines by 1)
DIAG                  fixing shorts or stucks on memory bus interfaces, 2)
DIAG                  replacing memory chips, 3) replace flawed ASICs (in order
DIAG                  of likelihood).
