At least one the Fuel PSU's I dealt with had its microcontroller fried - that would be nearly impossible to replace.

I actually contacted NMB (Minebea) to see if they could share schematics to their PSU - to no avail...

Irinikus, please read past threads on this, there's lots of info already discussed.

It's not related to the power rating of the PSU btw, I've already done power usage tests, Fuel really doesn't use that much. The most I've ever been able to get a Fuel to draw is 277W under load. Average usage is about 180 to 200W, while a basic system pulls maybe 135W.

I always thought caps were kinda cheap...

I've actually tested my fuel with a ~400w psu - the voltages were not stable, might have been related to quality of the psu I used.

The main thing I want to do is identify quality PSUs that work correctly, have them mentioned in this thread. Which ones atm are known to be definitely 100% ok?

I ran it with a PC Power and Cooling S75QB, but I can't fully promise that it works because I have yet to get a graphics board for my Fuel so I haven't been able to boot it past L1 prompt. At least according to the side of the PSU's specs the amperages should be fine. It does run as far as I have been able to test so far, and apart from the power cord socket hits the edge of the case metal problem a lot of PSUs have it does fit nicely.

Ah, depends what sort and what quality. Higher temperature higher capacity electrolytics, tantalum polymer, etc. can get more expensive if you look for the good ones. $1-2/ea. and it adds up when buying 20-50 of them.

Still sounds cheap to me. :D It's about 75 UKP to have a Fuel PSU repaired.

Hmm, doesn't look like the S75QB is available in the UK. Really what's needed is a model that's readily available but known to work ok.

This is what I have for now:

  • RockPower LW-6550HG
  • AQTIS 600W AP-600GR
  • Sparkle FSP460-60PFN - those numbers are for the WTX (Fuel) version, one would have to look up the ATX equivalent
  • NMB GM430WTXW01SSV (SGI PN SG002A430WSW) - those numbers are for the WTX (Fuel) version, one would have to look up the ATX equivalent
  • fortron fsp460-60pfn - this might be the Sparkle's ATX version

  • Hantol ATX 585W [HPSU585P] - unconfirmed
  • Corsair CX600 - unconfirmed

Thanks for that!! Any chance you could add that info to the first post in this thread?

Interesting about the CX600, I've used those for, two custom external JBODs I built for a movie company years ago.

Re what you've said abot the WTX versions above, do you mean those models as-is wouldn't work and one would need to find out what the ATX equivalent is for use with the adapter?

Fuel is a WTX machine so in theory it might work with a wtx psu but nobody ever verified that, even if it was electrically compatible the fan signal might be an issue.
My adapters require atx psu and there is definitely an atx sparkle 460 on the market - I'm sure one of the members used it with my adapter but I can't find the mention.

Hmm, in that case if you do add a list of known-ok models to the first post, or if it's added to the wiki, perhaps it's best to mention primarily just the ATX models, but separately list those WTX units as types worthy of investigation to identify the ATX equivalents.

Yeah, while it may work for me, the S75QB is an old PSU. I don't think they've made them in years, and they're certainly not readily available anymore. I was just saying that so far, it has seemed alright for me, that's all.

@ALL - tiny batch of 3 units complete, all 3 are fully tested and ready for shipping if there's any interest, another 3 coming up within a week or so.

Anyone have any news on standard PSUs known to work with kubatyszko's adapters?

Yeap. Works fine with my Fuel. (Using a Seasonic standard PSU)
