problems on octane random shut downs

Hello i have a octane 1, and having random power downs problems, and also some times i can't power it up i have to move the octane around or lift it 5 cm drop it and then push the power button and the system start ok.
Sometimes i can work for hours whit no problems, but at random the system start the shut down procedure and display a XIO error on the console before shut down.

How can i fix this ?.

If moving it around or bouncing it seems to fix it, sounds like "something" is "loose."

i Think the same but seems to not by something loose in the machine i removed the psu and the xio cards and repluged them to no avail

If it isn't something loose then the next suspect is probably the frontplane board (FP1) - the power button does show up as an XIO widget, and a failure somewhere there would definitely start a shutdown.

The main circuitry on the FP1 is the XBOW ASIC, but the board still might be worth checking it out because it does sound like something mechanical, and it might be the switch or a trace.

OK i know it take a little time but was able to fix this issue, one big coil inside the power supply have both pins to the board cold soldered it was completely loose re solder it and know the poweroff issues diapered.

Yes now i managed to damage the scsi bus i believe, removed the tape drive without powering off the computer and now the os get stuck when booting, i can boot fine from the installer cd but the installation never finish :'( get stuck at the same point the os boot.

And that's with the tape drive put back in, right? Because if it's still out the problem could be a bus termination failure...

I don't think you damaged the bus controller. SCA2 connectors are designed to connect and disconnect safely in powered enclosures (hot plug ability). I would look elsewhere.

When i removed the dat drive the system got frozen the next time at boot the computer started to boot and got stuck every time half way at startup.
Then i tried several hard drives, and external cdrom different termination but im unable to get to the second half of the installation sequence.
The installer get stalled when i start the install environment, not sure what to try next.
