Dear Friends,

I replaced the Dallas chip in my IMAPCT R10000 Indigo2 and now the machine does not start.
Experiences:
1) Power supply works, fan runs
2) HDD runs
3) Green LED is on
4) No startup chime
5) Nothing on screen
6) Machine cannot be switched off by long pressing the power button

What can be the problem?

There's something that's stopping startup before the CPU starts executing ROM code. Check your Dallas module again, try removing it and see what happens.

Thank You! O.K., I'll try to remove and install the Dallas chip again.
Does the startup chime work if there's no Dallas chip in the motherboard?

My Indigo2 (teal) does this from a cold start - pressing the reset button results in a normal start. Bit of a panic when I first got the machine, but it has started in this way many times now and seems fine; powering on while the machine is still warm goes straight to the chime.

The time is always July 1993, so the battery is dead but using the PROM "date" command each time is the better answer for me than trying to replace the battery, for the amount I use it.
