I'm (sortof) looking for an ADAT audio breakout for my SGI hardware. I've seen the Lucid ADA8824 but they're kind of expensive (they seem to sell 2nd hand for $500 or more). They're also not all that common in Europe. I can get a Behringer ADA8000
*new* for EUR 175, 2nd hand for half of that. Both devices are 8 channel 24bit AD/DA and support a variety of sampling frequencies up to 48kHz (not bad, but not exactly high end).
I know the Lucid ADA8824 will work with SGI hardware (they occasionally show up in Discreet setups), does anybody have any experience with the Behringer unit, or know a good reason it *won't* work?
The ADA8824 has AES/EBU I/O, is there any other reason for the price difference between the two units, or is this an excess of the demand/supply game?
The ADA8000 would *just* fit in my Lack Rack
, because it takes up only 1U
Now this is a deep dark secret, so everybody keep it quiet
It turns out that when reset, the WD33C93 defaults to a SCSI ID of 0, and it was simpler to leave it that way... -- Dave Olson, in comp.sys.sgi
