Dear All,
I am currently using Fuel (V12, IRIX 6.5.30m)
with Sony CRT GDM-F520 with VGA (1600x1200 75Hz).

Since the display is getting older, I wanted to try to use the LCD,
Sony LMD-2050W with VGA.
But this display cannot detect the signal from Fuel.
I tried with much lower resolution e.g. 800x600, but still cannot.

I then tried with PC's display Dell's LCD.
The signal could be detected and show the desktop, but very green.

I could not find what I have to install or how to configure,
and why Sony display cannot work.

I would be grateful if anyone could let me have any of your advice.
(Sony service could not provide any information.)

"with VGA" as in connected to a VGA/HD-15 port on the monitor? Have you tried making a fully digital DVI-to-DVI connection?

I think the V12 uses a technique called Sync-On-Green (SOG). Your display has to be able to process the SOG properly - otherwise you'll see no image on the display.

If I checked the manuals of the displays, SONY GDM-F520 and LMD-2050W,
the setting of Sync-On-Green seems to be the same.
So I still do not know why only the former works.

But, now
if I use the DVI cable both ends (DVI-to-DVI), I can see they worked on Both Sony and even Dell monitors,
as recondas suggested (thank you so much, recondas)

So, does the cable make the difference??
- the cable I have been using is DVI(Fuel)-to-VGA/HD15(display), which came with Fuel.

Yes - In as much as it provides a DVI-I compliant connection between your Fuel and monitor. Sync-on-green (and any other quasi-proprietary analog peculiarities your DVI-to-HD15 cable might be wired to provide) aren't an issue if you use a fully compliant DVI-to-DVI connection.
Depending on the original source (SGI or a third party) it might have been intended for a specific Fuel/display combination. You might still be able to use it - if you'd like to try I'd suggest mapping the pin-out with a multi-meter so you can see if the signalling it provides is a match for the HD15 port on the monitor you intend to use.
