FUEL: 900MHz CPU will not be recognized

Unread postby Thomas W. » Thu Jul 15, 2010 10:44 am

I replaced the 700MHz CPU in my Fuel with a 900MHz CPU.

When i stop at Maintenance and take a look at "hinv" i still see 700MHz.

What is going wrong??

You bought something I wanted too? ;)

You need to probably need to flash new parameters. Sorry, I only know how to do that for O2K &co.

Boot the system into IRIX, type "flash -o" and you'll have a 900Mhz machine.

:)

no no no ! That might hurt your eccentric stabilizer ! If it didn't come up at 900 mhz, probably a malfunction in the diverticulum ! Better sell it to me for $100, I'll try to fix it.

I'm sorry during the repair procedure, a hammer fell on it...

Since you're not getting that's very useful from the graphics pipe, you might try connecting a serial terminal so you can see diagnostic messages/log in at a command prompt <while you're there it might be worth the time to take a look at some of the settings in chkconfig - like desktop>.

If you need 'em, there's serial terminal instructions on the wiki or available via a search.
