Too little to late in your case, but just in case the search leads anyone here, it isn't necessary to press the power button and start the Fuel in order to access the L1 controller. The L1 controller in the Fuel <and other IP35 systems> should be up and running any time power is connected - starting the system isn't necessary. So no need to rush to type "env off" before the defective environmental monitoring powers down the system 30 seconds.
