Can't watch it; not one single person in that show has uploaded a profile pic to their imdb.

The recent Russian film "Generation P" features a bunch of SGI hardware, being used for high-end 3d rendering.

There's even an SGI monitor in the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTkreglCGiQ

There's also a LOT of over-the-shoulder shots of people using a motion capture system, and various graphics & video editing packages. Some of that is likely SGI, I can't tell.

"Lost in Space" has the bug logo after "Computer systems provided by Silicon Graphics, Inc." near the end of the credit crawl.

Interesting - the description on Wikipedia made me think of another fairly trippy and recentish film on post-Soviet advertising and reality, Branded. Given the stature of the 1999 novel and long production time of Generation "П" I wonder if Branded was a cheap knock-off, or a joint Russo-American respin for easy export, or both...

Sorry, no SGI content in that I can recall. We now return to your regularly scheduled thread, already in progress.

Yes! Not sure if that was the movie I saw it in, but at least now I know I'm not crazy and they did appear in the credits in the late 90's. Thanks for finding that!

Worse though is the really cheesy line within the movie (before the launch) where a voice says
for a background TV spot, "The future made possible, by Silicon Graphics." It sounds terrible, like
the phrasing is Silly Con Graphics. Or maybe that's just my old ears. :} Nobody else in the cinema
batted an eyelid of course, but I cringed.

Ian.

PS. Utterly off-topic, here's me! 8) And my favourite holiday road-sign, hehe.

You're in the wrong post! http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4166 is the place to post these pics. Love the road sign!

Ooo! Didn't see that thread...

Btw, anyone noticed in old movies sometimes the SGI logo on a monitor or something
will be covered by a postit note? Grrr...

Ian.

The email at 1:38 in the trailer? I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's just an animated mock-up, not a real email program. Disclosure was in production 93-94, and back then, things like MediaMail/Zmail on SGI and QuickMail or the original MS Mail on the Mac were considered to be pretty fancy. MacOS 7.1 and IRIX 5.0-5.2 were the current OS versions in 93-94.

You're possibly right, it could well be a mock up.. but the fact that fsn really exists gives hope. It's one cool mail system.

You can see how productive I've been today. :P

I think I've spotted a SECOND CRIMSON in the Jurassic Park control room.
For a very brief moment as they are shutting down you can see the corner of another red/charcoal colored object on the floor with a grille on the side. It's visible around Hammond's chest region. (click the image because the resized shot makes it hard to see)

waitwhatwasthat.jpg

I can look across my workshop at my Crimson and even though it's just a corner, it's EXACTLY what the corner of my Crimson looks like as well.
I ran my discovery through two other people to confirm it wasn't a mirror shot of the control room and the one we already know of. We can place the machine under the desk next to the stack of CCTV monitors using the CM5's along the wall, the different type of wall panelling used on that side of the room, the three workstations located in the front and center of the room and those still mysterious white boxes that sat on Nedry's desk (the ones with the blue triangles)

At no other point in the movie can the computer be seen. It is either obstructed by various park employees or other hardware on the mezzanine above.

To quote the missile launching terrorist in Die Hard 1 "I see him!"

Nice catch...
