agreed. i've only browsed the synopsis and it looks like i won't dive any deeper. all these late trends to hystericize the new millenia remind me of dark ages. we used to burn books back then, now we're burning minds.

olives aplenty in Epidaurus, give us a hand and join vp, our regular us-side bartender :)

try to find "the exterminating angel" in a bohemian cinema room or dvd and tell us what you think. don't bother w/ the average stamp-size iphone clip, doesn't count.

collateral damage turned into habit. i saw Ariadne yesterday, she never managed to (totaly) get rid of that Dionysus/Minotaur odor.

Inverse totalitarianism and the managed democracy.

Although i don't think we need to stretch so far for an answer. Fascism fits the description of the situation perfectly. Let's go to the horse's mouth :

"Fascism is the operation of government for the benefit of the large corporations."
--- Benito Mussolini

That's a great movie. Buñuel said of Mexico, "A fascist country softened by corruption."

I'll try to see it when the local place shows it in August.

yes gents, tricky how discourse works.

fascism had both political&fiscal roots. the word got demonized, turned into taboo after the end of wwii in order to reflect certain imagery/emblems of that short guy with the moustache. benito eventually got hanged for high treason in piazzale loreto and here we are in 2012 bailing out bankers, worrying about job security and negotiating basic human rights.

i pity the kids, everything they grow up in is phoney these days. "get rich or die tryin'" mantras are doomed to end in blood+tears. truth be said, distraction techniques are much better nowadays.

I do not. At least the Americans embrace it. They love it. They swallow that shit as if it were ambrosia. Tell them they are full of nonsense and they scream like you are taking away their V10 Dodge crewcab dually diesel with leather interior dreams. At that age everyone I knew was throwing rocks at the Establishment and burning cop cars. Kids now (not your artist-types but normal Americans) are pounding on the Establishment's door to get in.

They will die. You can't eat gold.

Yup. From the tomatoes on down*, phony as a three dollar bill. "Business logic ! Business ethics ! Profit ! Profit ! Gotta make a proooooofit ! Efficient use of reeeee-sources !" (As in, put it all in my bank account, you peasants.) Talk about the Big Lie .... diarrhoea is what it is.

* I have a quick civilization gauge : eat a tomato. If it tastes like cardboard, the society is worthless.

Well, I'd like to tell you all about my dream, it's a place
Where strip malls abound and diversion's mere moments away
Where culture is defined by the ones least refined
And you'll be left behind if you don't fit in
It's all distorted in americana, my way

Well, fuck you
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Well, my dream has come true
Whoa, whoa, whoa
My vision has come true

Now, give me my cable, fast food, four-by's, tat's, right away
I want it right now, 'cause my g-ggeneration don't like to wait
My future is determined by thieves, thugs, and vermin
It's quite an excursion, but it's ok
Everything's backwards in americana, my way

Well, fuck you
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Well, my dream is coming true
Whoa, whoa, whoa
My vision has come true
Yeah, it's all coming true

I'm a product
Of my environment
So don't blame me
I just work here but I wanna fuck you

My rights are denied by those least qualified
Trading profit for pride, but it's, it's ok
Everything's backwards in americana, my way

Well, fuck you
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Well, my nightmare has come true
Whoa, whoa, whoa
My nightmare has come true
Yeah, it's all coming true
Yeah, it's all coming true

Apparently, China still peruses Bible translations aimed at pre-school kids. Farting? No way! The NRSV says "[...] whose emission was like that of stallions". Just duplicate that :-)

@our admins: the current thread might be become quite interesting, but out of Nekochan.net. Can you please move it to "Everything else" under, say, "Pro & Con religion" or whatever you think would be ok?

Had to download that, next it'll be old Warner Brothers cartoons, soon I'm gonna get hooked on the hard stuff, shootin' up copyright Disney movies !! and next thing I know the SBA will be kickin' in my door, then I'll be getting butt-raped in prison by Big Willy all because of your bad influence :( Shee-it, d00d. Have you no feelings for your fellow man ?

You don't have the DOT in Australia, I guess ? If Joan Clayburgh had her way those poor stallions would be running around with oxygen sensors up their butts.

Don't know about Australia. As for emission - you know, there are also non-gaseous meanings :-)

BTW - you're aware of the connotation "laugh" and "laughter" have at various places throughout the Bible, aren't you? ;)

Don't worry about emissions... We have a tax on the air here that I am told will solve everything... People from the government on down should stop exhaling ...

I don't worry about emissions down under. Was only trying to point out that hamei, as so often before, again confused Austria with Australia :-)

Hmm, various Gallup polls over the years suggest that 40+% of Americans are creationists [only slightly less so in Europe]! Extrapolating, I feel a bit uncomfortable to think that 1000+ of our members are creationists. However, I hasten to add, I most certainly have no intention for any critique of our members - in fact, I don't care at all what [s]he believes, even if for me creationism is pure humbug :-)
