Unread postby jnolck » Tue Feb 19, 2008 1:32 am

Can i mix a fx5 and a fx10 to have a dual head machine, or do both graphics cards have to be the same? Can i even have 2 video cards on a visualize j5600?

You can put two cards independently of type- I'm using Graffiti and FXE in B132L and FXE and FX10pro in C3600. SAM is your friend.

I recently bought two fx10 cards of ebay. Marked A1299-66503 rev b. Sam doesn't see them as an fx10, it tells me it's an fx5. Is that correct? Do i have to install additional software for it to recognize it as an fx10? Maybe I am looking at the wrong number. Anyone know how to physically identify the cards. One thing i did notice was that a brittish guy http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=160215197958&_trksid=p3984.cWAT.m240.lVI is selling 30 of them and his have all 4 heatsinks on top of them. Mine only have 3.

From what I've seen fx10s have 4 heatsinks, fx5s only have 3.

here's the front and back of one of mine:

BURN!!!!. I paid $90 for 2 of them and they are actually fx5's     And one of them doesn't work. I guess that brittish guy actually has fx10's. I really need to ask questions and do research before i buy. before the two fx5's i bought an fx10 that was agp only :(. Thanks for showing me the pictures.

Good seller, his giving me a replacement :).

Ok so mixing cards worked. I got an fx5 (;() and a fx6 working together, however it's running 2 separate x servers. Can i do SLS with say an fx5 and a fx10? I know the hp docs say that you have to have identical devices to do SLS, but the fx5 and fx10 are almost the same. Does SLS officially or unofficially work with such a configuration?

I can see where the number describing the card is now. It's on that white sticker on the back of the card. I kept reading the number on the pcb. My card is actually A1262-66501.

Are there demos in HP-UX so i can see these cards working their 3d magic?

Demos: yes, however, as far as I know- you have to download OpenGL package separately (and I lost the link long ago- it's on ITRC though). Besides, for VizFX it stopped on v1.1.

As for mixing the cards for SLS, I'm using it with Graffiti and FXE, so I guess- yes.
