HP-UX compilers

Unread postby foetz » Thu Feb 08, 2018 8:56 am

i was looking around for some hpux compiler specifics and noticed that i couldn't find any info anywhere anymore. no trace of them anymore on the hpe website at all
i remember joining the hp partner program did give you some sort of special license. is that still the case?

These guys claim to have it, but I'd take that claim with a very sizeable grain of salt:

They've discontinued the product?

The user manual is still online, most recent update looks to be March 2016:

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c05054285

So they spend millions of dollars dumping gcc to develop their own compiler, then eh, just pull it.

Ah yes! I see it now, HP's store is selling licenses for considerably less than their partners:

Any particular reason? I remember cursing aCC in the 10.20 days. I had to do horrible things like hacking header files and the like.

They used to offer a 30-day (or maybe it was even 90) free trial license for their compilers. I'd been meaning to sign up for one of those, but kept putting it off until I knew I'd have enough free time in the following 30 (or 90) days to put them to good use. I don't see the trial offer any more. It looks like I missed my chance. :(

It's odd that there's almost no discussion about them in the community.hpe.com forums, either HP has developed them to the point where they work really well (re. Classic's post) or nobody's using them.

well hpux has always been my "second in command" after irix. and the compilers didn't give me more or less trouble than other proprietary ones.

It’s still alive. I ordered and installed one a few months ago. There are two reasons why it is difficult to find enough info:

1) The insensitive hp.com-to-hpe.com transition that broke many URLs.

2) There is no pressure on fixing this as there are no new customers for HP-UX stuff. There are still many new orders for Itanium-based systems with HP-UX (and OpenVMS too). However, all orders are from existing customers (adding or replacing nodes) and not new ones.
