looking for C++ compiler version 6.5 or 7.1

Well I finally got license for my 6.1 C++ to only to find is really to old to build much of gnu stuff written in C++. I need a later version. I phoned the HP order line for the HP tru64 7.1 C++ . Well the automated phone system replied with "having difficulty with your call try later". Well I tried several times and always got the same answer ... I guess the whole department is missing in action now. Well I have the license does anyone out there have the media? The compiler of various versions was routinely sent of with "Software Library CD's" subscription.

There's a version of GCC for Tru-64 but it is woefully out of date and hasn't been maintained for years. I think a newer version of this was cobbled together and is actually in a repository on nekochan but I can't find it immediately so check this for some readymade 3.4.6 binaries:
http://wickensonline.co.uk/app/index.html#/vaxen

It is far more modern than any of the HP compilers though, afaik

Edit: ah this is what I was thinking of and there is no GCC version on the drive, lots of other helpful stuff. http://www.nekochan.net/downloads/index ... z%2Ftru64/

I have 7.10 (I think, well I have a kit called CXXREDIST710.tar) - PM me and we'll arrange to get it to you.

Mark.

ah it looks like that might just be a bug fix for the RTL. I do have tru564-5.1.spl1 and associated products isos which may have what you need on?

Mmm could provide only GNU Tools (with GNU Compiler Collection ?) which came with Tru64 5.1 but might be kind of outdated (year 2001)

Code: Select all

The C++ compiler didn't come as part of tru64-5.x OS distribution, it was shipped as part of the "Software Products Library"
see this url for details: http://h30266.www3.hpe.com/masterindex/ ... rnal.shtml
Thousands of the disks were shipped but I only have seen one complete set show up on Ebay dated 1999. I snapped up that set. It is where I got DEC C++ version 6.1,Dec Fortran,Dec Pascal,Dec cobol,Open 3d ( OpenGL 1.2 same release as SGI Irix 6.5) ,Office applications and a bunch of other stuff ...four CD's worth.
I just recently got a bunch of Dec licenses for the majority of this stuff and are trying it out.
Of course if someone has a 6.5 or 7.1 C++ compiler I am willing to exchange software and licenses. The licenses I got for this stuff is all "for hobby use only".

oh my god if you have that set... i know we can't talk about sharing anything here, but just to have some of that old dead abandonware available there are places online that would be happy to host it.

when it comes to the newer compilers, have you checked any of the various sites now hosting ISOs of the stuff that was given out for tru64? there was, for a very short period of time as far as i can tell, a hobbyist license program for tru64.

the most recent SPL image we have available is from 1998: http://vaxhaven.com/CD_Image_Archive

The Software Products Library disks are recorded with only the Unix file system so are unreadable on Windows 10. If someone could tell how to make an iso image from a CD with only a Unix file system (unreadable under Windows) with Windows 10 I would do it. The other possibility is if someone could tell how to make a CD iso image with tru64 that would also work.

Any CD burning program on any operating system should be capable of creating an ISO image, brasero on linux is what I use if i need it. Nero was what i used when I still had a windows-based computer with an optical drive. (Kept the optical drive on the linux machine because I have a version of Civ:CTP that needs it ;) )

for creating an iso or similar image format your host os doesn't need to be able to read the cd's content.

I use "dd" with some options, most of the time.

Also there are some VAX/VMS ISOs around here...

nobody has any problem with sharing any software for VMS or Tru64/DUnix, because you still need a license for it and tbh it's much easier to run a free version of BSD or linux on any of the old hardware, unless you're a real hardcore retrocomputing enthusiast. the type equivalent to the idiots who would buy an old car just so they could fix it when it breaks down. banging your head against a wall for fun.

can't steal something nobody wants, and nobody is pirating anything when you can still get a license for it somewhere.

my dec 3000/400 is running openbsd right now. runs lua and a version of lisp quite happily.

I got some friendly advise on how to use mkisofs in tru64 unix to create Iso images. I just created a torrent so anyone can download the stuff. I also included a script to generate and install hobbyist licenses for everything in the entire Digital Tru64 software library and OSF associated product disks ...over 200 licenses. The libary is dated january 1999 so for some software products you will have to edit the installation script to turn off the check looking for osf4 installation. One product for sure that does that is Open3d (ie opengl 1.2). I was able to load and execute correctly Digital C++,Pascal,Fortran and Cobol so start down loading like crazy and start building more tru64 software for the rest of us!
Check here for a listing of what is these disks -> http://h30266.www3.hpe.com/masterindex/ ... rnal.shtml

The torrent I built is tru64spl.torrent .
