OpenVMS Hobbyist Kit

Unread postby Voralyan » Wed Feb 08, 2017 3:15 pm

Hi,

I have copy of the OpenVMS Hobbyist Kit (for VAX) CDROM (as shown
in the picture). Unfortunately it's no longer readable. When I tried to get
an image of it with different drives I got results ranging from nothing up to ca. 85 %
of the content.
There are some kind of speckles on the data side of the CDROM which can't be cleaned
off...
However: Can someone provide an image of the CD? It seems the hobbyist site
at Montagar doesn't exist anymore, and delivery of the CD took, back then,
almost ages...

Thanks! :-)

Greetings, Voralyan

Did you read the rules at the top of every forum?

That being said we have a number of members with VMS. I suggest resurfacing and imaging/burning the disc over.

I didn't ask for a license file or something like that...

You know that you can get a CD image file for the asking as part of your hobbyist license, right? You get your license PAKs, and then fire back an email requesting a download for whichever system you need. They then send you a time-limited login to some ftp to download from.

Yeah, as nyef says, the CD image is available for free once you sign up with the hobbyist program, as are a bunch of the layered products.

I think this is the confusion -- the hobbyist program registration process has changed so many times!

It is currently at: https://www.hpe.com/h41268/live/index_e.aspx?qid=24548

Someone associated with HPE will contact you directly, and they will give you FTP credentials to log in and download burnable ISO images. I found it fairly fast (e.g. within 24 hrs response).

Since this post deals with software available upon free registration and is merely needed to replace a broken copy, i conclude this does not violate forum policy. This topic can stay.

Haven't done anything related to VMS in the last years I just looked straight away
for the Montagar site, just to find out that it is gone... And Google doesn't turn
up something really useful on the first try, so I asked here..

Thanks for the link, will try it.

Not only have things changed often, the changes haven't always been announced quickly or in a widespread way. I remember taking a few weeks to figure out how to get updated PAKs when HP took it in-house.
I'm wondering what the future holds. I can't imagine HPE is jumping with joy at the program given that they have sold VMS, but VMS Software hasn't mentioned picking it up.
