well, priorities man; you can get a master's degree anyday, but this is the real deal.

Sorry (but not really sorry) to revive a two-year-old thread, but I was having the exact same problem. I just set up OpenGenera 2.0 on a Compaq AlphaServer DS10L running Tru64 5.1B. I had NO luck at all with NFS. Exactly the same error message as the original poster.

I was about ready to give up when I eventually tried one last thing. I edited /etc/rc.config.common and changed MOUNTOPTS from "-i" to "-n" (-n means that mountd will allow non-root mount requests, and getting rid of -i means no host verification). Then I made sure my /etc/exports file looked like this:

Code: Select all

/data    -rw -root=0 -anon=0 -access=gecko
/usr     -rw -root=0 -anon=0 -access=gecko
/        -rw -root=0 -anon=0 -access=gecko

(Here, gecko is the name of my VLM).

And you know what? It worked!

I had some permission problems with the sys.sct files, so I made sure they were all writable (some were not). After that, I had a perfectly working Open Genera system.

Caveat: I don't know for sure whether -root=0 -anon=0 are REQUIRED, or if you can leave them off. At that point I was just glad to have a working setup and stopped experimenting.

Don't be sorry, because I never got around to fixing this. I'll have to try your method!
