Am pondering getting myself a Z800/ZR24w combo. Any experiences?

I don't know about the Z800, but if you mean the cheap display with ZR24w, I would recommend against it, while it is an IPS display so the picture quality is quite nice if a bit soft, the blacks are terrible, and it refuses to see the signal from my octane (might be my cable of course).
My old LG L245 (that broke  ) it replaced was MUCH better.
:Octane: halo, octane
N.B.: I tend to talk out of my ass. Do not take it too seriously.

My xw9300 is amazing (the predecessor to the z800, well actually the amd-based cousin of the xw8600, which was the predecesor to the z800)

Good points:
tool-less everything and drives, pcix boards, etc snap in in seconds
bulletproof chassis (I think those side panels really are bulletproof! I don't see why it couldn't stop a 9mm, at least)

The only real problem I have with it is noise and power comsumption. I have good old hp L1955 screens and they are acceptable picture, colour, etc with SOG and usb hub. Newer HP screens, at least the consumer ones... not so great.
