....i dont unterstand the magic behind that. there is no word about why they give it away for free now.

Sadly I don't think it is so easy...
According with what is stated here:

"If you do not have a valid license to use HP-UX 11i, either because you did not have a support contract or because you purchased a used system through a third-party broker, please go to B9089AC, the HP-UX 11i OE Per-Processor License, purchased separately from system. The B9089AC product allows you to upgrade a given number of processors to the HP-UX 11i OE. "

(original link here : http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=B9088AC )

It seems to me that the link above is only for receiving hpux media, while the license has to be purchased separately from Os media if one gets an used system..

makes me laugh, its the same issue that we have with irix. of course you need a license to run it, but who cares.
had a c240 with 11i running while back, and the installer never asks for a license. all you need is a HP9000 and the media. i dont think HP cares about what hoppyists fiddling around at home on their pa-riscs.

by the way "B9089AC" is included at no charge with any server or workstation.

Order Shipped

Got a note from HP earlier saying that they have already shipped the media kit by DHL ... that was bloody fast!!!

Stuff generally seems to happen a hell of a lot faster with HP now...

I just got mine today as well. A total of 9 CDROMs and 1 DVD-ROM:

HP-UX 11i version 1: Mission Critical Environment (September 2005).
4 CDs

HP-UX 11i version 1: Application software: HP Visualize and HP 9000 Enterprise servers (June 2006). 5 CDs and 1 DVD. I think the DVD contains all the ocntents of the 5 CDs.

Send via DHL courier all the way to Sydney, Australia, all for free. Thats very good service!
