Ultra10 has onboard VGA. I guess you have a second framebuffer, but you can just plug your regular peecee monitor into the onboard pgx64.

I finally got my SCA extension cable to work today and am now running the SS20 thus:

Dual 180 Ross, QFE on the top farthest SBUS slot, all other SBUS ports empty, so the air can flow freely, the 73 gig Maxtor in the bottom SCA slot, the fifty gig Barracuda across where the CDROM goes and the little fan that sits between augmented by a second, larger fan, pushing air across the 10k drive. Will let you know if it runs ok or overheats and burns my house down. :)

Otherwise it's time to celebrate, 120 gigs of SCSI storage, yeah!

can you have any pic of your mods?

on my side i have
2x ss/lx fully loaded and ext hdd caddy cdrom and audio box
1 U1 175
1 U2 2x300 creator3d

@ radrob: not yet unfortunately, have no quality digicam here, but once i get my hands on one i'll be posting pics.

@ all and coredog64: the mod with the second fan seems to work just fine, i've been running the server for days on end and it doesn't panic nor shutdown unexpectedly, the air coming out on the other side isn't boiling hot, just warm. :)

Ok first post here, be gentle.

I only have 2 pieces of Sun hardware at the moment:

1 Ultra 10 440Mhz 512Mb Elite 3D-M3 graphics Solaris 9
1 SparcStation 20 with 2*125Mhz ROSS HyperSparc, 512Mb Solaris 9

1 dodgy 17" Sun monitor that is on its way out, goes funky colours and is kind of dark.

My wish list includes a Sun Blade1000/2000 or an Ultra45 either way I would be happy, a couple of 120Gb disks for my Ultra 10, and some time to upgrade to Solaris10.
Apple Unibody MBP 2.66Ghz, 8Gb OSX 10.6
Apple MacMini 1.83Ghz, 1Gb OSX 10.5
Apple Power Mac Cube 450Mhz, 256Mb, OSX 10.3 Sweet!
Sun Ultra10 440Mhz 1Gb, SunOS 5.10

I've only got a reasonably stock Ultra5 (360 MHz) with 256 MB RAM and the original 6 GB disk, running Solaris9.

I did snag a SunPC II card for it a year or two back to run windows and office (yes, unfortunately I need to maintain document compatibility with the rest of the planet) - it prompts a few double-takes when people walk into the office and see windows apparently running on a Sun box

Yesterday I bought a Sun Blade 1000, spec.'s as follows: 1xUltraSPARC III/750MHz, Creator3D, 1GiB RAM, 36GB SCSI HDD, floppy, smartcard reader.
I also have a headless Ultra 10 laying around, serving as a print server.

Don't you mean you have a space heater laying around that doubles as a print server? ;)

I picked up an Ultra Enterprise 3000 today - looks to have four processors, and for a change, all the hard drives (10!) were still installed. Haven't had a chance to fire it up yet, it's too heavy to carry up the stairs by myself.

There was a whole pallet of SpacServer 1000e's and SpacStation 5's there - nobody bid on 'em <even after they lowered the starting bid to 5 bux - for the whole pallet>.

SS20, SS10, SS4, SS4, IPX, IPX, SS2... that's it. Except from one of the SS4s all Suns are running Solaris 2.6.

Actually an (by the time outdated and by now surely scrapped) IPX was the first machine I ever saw a live UNIX on back then in late 1994. For years after some months in real UNIX land I forgot about that until I decided to buy an IPX for my home use. The thing I then really found and bought was a nice blue Indigo. The rest... well, that's a history of collecting old and discarded computers.

Ultra 10, with a spiffy IC Power 17" flat panel. Runs Solaris 10 U1 with OpenStep.
